"We're going to grill out at my summer home.
Wanna come?”
What does "grill out" mean?
When we say "grill out" we mean
that we are going to grill food
on the barbecue. A typical
BBQ would include
hamburgers, hot dogs,
chicken, corn and perhaps
vegetable skewers, and maybe
fish.

6. 2. Inviting people
Invitations have three parts:
1. asking the person if they're free
2. saying what the event is
3. inviting the person to attend
For example:
“What are you doing next
Saturday? We're having some
people over for a meal. Would
you like to come?”
"Have you got anything on for
this evening? A couple of us
are going to the pub after
work if you'd like to come."

This is certainly an informal email.
There are typically 5 parts of such an
invitation email:

2. Invitation
3. Additional Information
4. Closing
5. Signature
8. Informal Greetings
• Hello Rupinder,
• Hi Maria,

You have received
an invitation to
a potluck BBQ.
What do you say?
13. “What are your plans for the weekend?”
This question may be an indirect invitation to a BBQ!
Have you noticed that Canadians tend to be fairly indirect?
Don't want to go? =>
Wanna go? =>
"I'm going to spend the day with
friends. I hope you enjoy the day!”
"Not much. What are you doing?" or "I'm
not sure yet, I am still figuring it out. How
about you?”

idea to bring something to share. Here
are some ideas:
• Meat, fish or chicken to cook on the grill (check
with the host)
• Any kind of drink (wine, beer, soda)
• Food that goes on the side with meat- potato
salad, coleslaw, green salad
• Dessert
