I’m increasingly certain that the roots of our global crises and the solutions to them are of a psychological nature. I therefore wanted to consider two books that applied some of the insights of psychological inquiry to the current juncture and look at how they might provide some direction toward “transformation”. As I have considered, I’ve found that the psychological area I’m interested in merges with other ideas that might be considered as “spiritual”. This is a word with some “edge” for me, a certain tension – Am I a Spiritual Person? a challenge I feel like I’m being called to meet somehow. Both of the books I’ve chosen to write and speak about question the way humanity has been living in the modern age, where we’ve treated the world as stuff, as objects: possessions , and where we’ve become obsessed with what we consider our “individual problems”, the stuff that possess us.
