Exercise 2 :
 Say if the following statements are “True” or “False”. Correct the wrong ones.
1) A Learning style is the way an individual best learns.
2) Skimming is reading for specific information.
3) Interpretive competence refers to a learner's ability to use language to communicate
successfully.
4) Functions are ways in which we perform certain things such as, apologising, inviting, ….
5) Visual Learners are pupils who learn best through movements and physical manipulation of
items.
6) In a student-centered class, students depend on their teacher all the time, waiting for
instructions, words of approval, correction, advice, or praise.
7) Elicit is when we try to get information and language from students rather than telling it to
them.
8) Diagnostic assessment is defined as assessment carried out during the instructional process for
the purpose of improving teaching or learning.
9) Consolidation is a lesson stage where learning is reinforced.
10) When we communicate, we use one single language skill.
Exercise 3 :
Explain the differences between the following aspects. –Choose only one
1. Mechanical practice Vs Communicative practice
2. Writing for writing Vs writing for learning
3. Skimming Vs scanning texts.
Exercise 4 : Discuss one of the following topics.
The teacher stages the lessons so that what the learner learns/practices in each step
prepares for the next ones.
The teacher supplements and adapts the textbook to plan activities related to learners’
interests, prior knowledge and experience.
The teacher sets tasks that allow the learner to discover how the language works in its form,
meaning and use and ensures each is clear for students.
