2. What have you learnt?
• I have learnt how to use Photoshop to create an affective
media product.
• I have learnt the specific features and conventions of a
magazine and how to position them in a way which relates to
similar existing products.
• I have learnt how to keep continuity between my magazine
and also how to create a house style. i have done this through
the use of the rule of 3, similar font types, same artists
featured and page numbers that correspond with the
contents page.
• Finally I have learnt how to build my magazine to fit a specific
audience. The use of reader
profiles, questionnaires, demographics and focus groups has
allowed me to accomplish this.
3. How have you developed?
• I have developed my use of techniques in
Photoshop through the process of trial and error.
In addition, my skills were further improved by
creating several drafts before my final product.
• The techniques have become more advanced
through the progression to my final product. And
have allowed the magazine to appear more
professional.
• The photography used within my final product is
of a greater quality this is due to my development
in lighting techniques and camera angles.
4. What would you change?
• I would change the background with a custom
background that relates more with the genre of
the magazine.
• I would use a font type that stands out more
clearly from the rest of the page which will
therefore look more appealing for the audience.
• I would take the photograph of the artist from a
medium close up or close up shot to show the
facial features of the artist and also the emotions
they are portraying in greater definition.
5. Why was it useful carrying out the
preliminary task?
• The preliminary task introduced me to the course
and gave me an idea of what to expect during it.
• Carrying out the preliminary task was useful as it
allowed me to get an initial idea of the skills I
already had in Photoshop and photography. It
also allowed me to find the specific features that
are used within magazines and the positioning of
them. This was beneficial as it helped match the
conventions of existing products.
6. What skills and knowledge did you learn in
order to produce a music magazine?
• I have learnt how to use the techniques within
Photoshop for example: smudge tool, magnetic
and polygon lasso, transform
scale/rotation, blending options and changing the
opacity of text.
• I have learnt how to position features of my
magazine in conventional locations to create a
magazine that the audience can relate to.
• I have learnt about demographics and the
expectations of my target audience.
