1. SALVATION
IN
SACRIFICE

3. “The church is God’s appointed agency for
the salvation of men. It was organized for
service, and its mission is to carry the
gospel to the world. From the beginning it
has been God’s plan that through His
church shall be reflected to the world His
fullness and His sufficiency. The members
of the church, those whom He has called
out of darkness into His marvelous light,
are to show forth His glory. The church is
the repository of the riches of the grace of
Christ; and through the church will
eventually be made manifest, even to “the
principalities and powers in heavenly
places,” the final and full display of the love
of God.”

4. What is “Salvation”:1.The act of saving or protecting from harm, risk, loss, or
destruction.
2. A source, cause, or means of being saved or protected
from harm, risk.
3. Deliverance from the power and penalty of sin; it is
redemption.

5. 1.Scripture shows that “Salvation” is
of God:

6. Ps.27:1 “The LORD is my light and my
salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is
the strength of my life; of whom shall I be
afraid?”
Ps.35:9 “And my soul shall be joyful in
the LORD: it shall rejoice
in his salvation.”

7. 2. Salvation came to humanity
from God because of sin:

8. Lk.3:6 “And all flesh shall see the salvation of
God.”
Lk.19:9,10“And Jesus said unto him, This day is
salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he
also is a son of Abraham.
[10] For the Son of man is come to seek
and to save that which
was lost.”

9. {a} Salvation came in the form
of the “Ceremonial Sacrifice”:

10. Gen.3:21“Unto Adam also and
to his wife did the LORD God
make coats of skins, and
clothed them.”

11. Heb.11:4 “By faith Abel offered unto God a more
excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained
witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts:
and by it he being dead yet speaketh.”
Heb.9:1,9“Then verily the first covenant had also
ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.”
[9]“Which was a figure for the time then present, in
which were offered both gifts
and sacrifices, that could not
make him that did the
service perfect, as
pertaining to the
conscience;”

12. “In humility and inexpressible sadness, Adam
and Eve left the lovely garden wherein they
had been so happy until they disobeyed the
command of God. The atmosphere was
changed. It was no longer unvarying as before
the transgression. God clothed them with
coats of skins to protect them from the sense
of chilliness and then of heat to which they
were exposed. All Heaven mourned on account
of the disobedience and fall of Adam and Eve,
which brought the wrath of God upon the
whole human race. They were cut off from
communing with God, and were plunged in
hopeless misery. The law of God could not be
changed to meet man’s necessity; for in God’s
arrangement it was never to lose its force, nor
give up the smallest part of its claims.”

13. “The Lord Jesus Christ has prepared a covering—
the robe of His own righteousness—that He will
put on every repenting, believing soul who by
faith will receive it. Said John, “Behold the Lamb
of God, which taketh away the sin of the world”
(John 1:29). Sin is the transgression of the law.
Christ died to make it possible for every man to
have his sins taken away……Christ has made a
sacrifice to satisfy the demands of justice. What
a price for Heaven to pay to ransom the
transgressor of the law of Jehovah. Yet that holy
law could not be maintained with any smaller
price. In the place of the law being abolished to
meet sinful man in his fallen condition, it has
been maintained in all its sacred dignity. In His
Son, God gave Himself to save from eternal ruin
all who would believe in Him.”

14. {b} Salvation also came in the
“life and death of Jesus Christ”:

15. 1Cor.5:7“Purge out therefore the old leaven,
that ye may be a new lump, as ye are
unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is
sacrificed for us:”
Eph.5:1,2 “Be ye therefore followers of God, as
dear children;
[2] And walk in love, as Christ also hath
loved us, and hath
given himself for us
an offering and a
sacrifice to God for a
sweetsmelling savour.”

16. “By the life and the death of Christ,
the thoughts of men also are brought
to view. From the manger to the
cross, the life of Jesus was a call to
self-surrender, and to fellowship in
suffering. It unveiled the purposes of
men. Jesus came with the truth of
heaven, and all who were listening to
the voice of the Holy Spirit were
drawn to Him. The worshipers of self
belonged to Satan’s kingdom. In their
attitude toward Christ, all would
show on which side they stood. And
thus everyone passes judgment on
himself.”

17. 3. Salvation therefore comes to
humanity from God through
Jesus Christ:

18. Jn.4:20-22 “Our fathers worshipped in this
mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the
place where men ought to worship.
[21] Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me,
the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this
mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship
the Father.
[22] Ye worship ye know
not what: we know
what we worship: for
salvation is of the
Jews.”

19. Act.4:10-12 “Be it known unto you all, and to all the
people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from
the dead, even by him doth this man stand here
before you whole.
[11] This is the stone which was set at nought of you
builders, which is become the head of the corner.
[12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for
there is none other name
under heaven given
among men, whereby
we must be saved.”

20. Heb.9:23,24,28 “It was therefore necessary that the
patterns of things in the heavens should be purified
with these; but the heavenly things themselves with
better sacrifices than these.
[24] For Christ is not entered into the holy places
made with hands, which are the figures of the true;
but into heaven itself, now to appear in the
presence of God for us:
[28] So Christ was once
offered to bear the sins
of many; and unto them
that look for him shall
he appear the second
time without sin unto salvation.”

21. Heb.10:5-10“Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith,
Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou
prepared me:
[6] In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no
pleasure.
[7] Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of
me,) to do thy will, O God.
[8] Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings
and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure
therein; which are offered by the law;
[9] Then said he, Lo, I come to do
thy will, O God. He taketh away
the first, that he may establish
the second.
[10] By the which will we are
sanctified through the offering
of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

22. 4. Jesus showed forth salvation
in the sacrifice of his life
through the New Testament he
established:

23. Mk.14:22-25 “And as they did eat, Jesus took
bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to
them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
[23] And he took the cup, and when he had given
thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
[24] And he said unto them, This is my blood of the
new testament, which is shed for many.
[25] Verily I say unto you, I will drink
no more of the fruit of
the vine, until that day
that I drink it new in
the kingdom of God.”

24. “The kingdom of grace was instituted immediately
after the fall of man, when a plan was devised for
the redemption of the guilty race. It then existed in
the purpose and by the promise of God; and
through faith, men could become its subjects. Yet it
was not actually established until the death of
Christ. Even after entering upon His earthly mission,
the Saviour, wearied with the stubbornness and
ingratitude of men, might have drawn back from the
sacrifice of Calvary. In Gethsemane the cup of woe
trembled in His hand. He might even then have
wiped the blood-sweat from His brow and have left
the guilty race to perish in their iniquity. Had He
done this, there could have been no redemption for
fallen men. But when the Saviour yielded up His life,
and with His expiring breath cried out, “It is
finished,” then the fulfillment of the plan of
redemption was assured. The promise of salvation
made to the sinful pair in Eden was ratified. The
kingdom of grace, which had before existed by the
promise of God, was then established.”

25. 5. The righteous offer sacrifices
by our deeds and actions and
in turn others receive
salvation:

26. Heb.13:14-16“For here have we no
continuing city, but we seek one to come.
[15] By him therefore let us offer the
sacrifice of praise to God continually, that
is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his
name.
[16] But to do good and
to communicate
forget not: for with
such sacrifices God
is well pleased.”

27. 1Pet.2:3-5“If so be ye have tasted that the
Lord is gracious.
[4] To whom coming, as unto a living
stone, disallowed indeed of men, but
chosen of God, and precious,
[5] Ye also, as lively stones, are built
up a spiritual house, an
holy priesthood, to
offer up spiritual
sacrifices,
acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”

28. Conclusion:
“In giving us His word, God has put
us in possession of every truth
essential for our salvation.
Thousands have drawn water from
these wells of life, yet there is no
diminishing of the supply. Thousands
have set the Lord before them, and
by beholding have been changed into
the same image. Their spirit burns
within them as they speak of His
character, telling what Christ is to
them, and what they are to Christ.
But these searchers have not
exhausted these grand and holy
themes……….

29. …..Thousands more may engage in the
work of searching out the mysteries of
salvation. As the life of Christ and the
character of His mission are dwelt upon,
rays of light will shine forth more distinctly
at every attempt to discover truth. Each
fresh search will reveal something more
deeply interesting than has yet been
unfolded. The subject is inexhaustible. The
study of the incarnation of Christ, His
atoning sacrifice and mediatorial work, will
employ the mind of the diligent student as
long as time shall last; and looking to
heaven with its unnumbered years he will
exclaim, “Great is the mystery of
godliness.”
