The Asmat are an indigenous hunter-gatherer culture living in West Papua, Indonesia, who are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer cultures in the world; they have traditions such as nose piercing and painting faces and bodies for ceremonies and war, but their traditional culture is being deeply affected and may disappear due to deforestation, colonization, and assimilation by the modern world taking over their lands.
