13. IIMAN ‘AMAL • IHSAN
[Islam]
Belief Submission Best or
Faith Obedience Righteous
Conviction Practice Conduct
Faith without obedience is meaningless; and obedience without Faith is
mere rituals and may even lead to hypocrisy.
Together, Faith and Obedience must lead to Righteousness with IHSAN
which essentially focus in our intention to sincerely serve Allah s.w.t.
Thus, in these three aspects can one be said to be true in his submission
to the Will of Allah (as Muslim).

52. • Preferably during auspicious occasions (according to As-Sunnah)
like days of Hajj – Tawaf, Sa-’ie, ‘Arafah, Mudzdalifah, Mina etc;
month of Ramadhan; last third f the night; just before dawn; the
whole day of Jumu’ah (Friday); while one is fasting; at times of
breaking fast; between Adzan and Iqomah; at midnight; etc.
• At times of efficacy for Du’a , viz. In Sujud, last I’tidal, julus
before Salaam; when meeting the enemies in Jihad; when it is
raining; before and after Swolah; when feeling calm free from
satan’s entrapment; when looking upon the Ka’aba in Masjidil-
Haram; when completing Qur’an recitation (Khatm-al-Qur’an) ;
between dawn and sunrise; etc.
All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)
53. • Preferably to face the direction (Qiblah). Raising hands with
palms facing up to the heaven is Sunnah.
• Not to raise our voice too loud nor be too soft or silent.
• Not be too poetic or flowery but earnest, forthright and to the
point, in what is being requested. Yet we must not forget the proper
decorum. Beware of reciting compilation from unknown sources.
• The best Du’a in Arabic are those taught by Allah and His
Messenger, then by other learned Ulama’ (scholars). Those who are
yet to be fluent in Arabic, may use the meanings from these Du’a,
translated in his own language. Even when we have yet to learn
these, one can make our own Du’a as and when needed and
appropriate to the teachings of Islam – in any languages one knows.

54. • Be in humility (Khushu’) and with sense of distress, imploring
and in need (Tadharu’) towards Allah’s Magnificence, Exaltedness,
Tremendous Generosity and Compassion.
• Strengthen our conviction of Allah’s Generosity and certain of His
promise to fulfil all our Du’a with His Wisdom and Mercy. Never
hesitate or entertain doubts nor anxiety that one’s Du’a may be
rejected. Do not be hasty or be impatient but have complete trust in
Allah’s decision.
• It is Sunnah to repeat whatever is requested, up to three times.
• To begin with Hamdalah and Solawat and to close Du’a with
Solawat and Hamdalah.
All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)
55. • To repent (make TAUBAH) before making Du’a.
• The important factor towards efficacy (ISTAJABA) of our Du’a is
very much dependant upon our upholding TAUHEED (avoiding
SHIRK), striving towards TAQWA, careful (WARA’) in matters of our
food consumption, and upholding the daily obligatory SwOLAH.
• Yet, we must always remember that Allah readily respond to
Muslims making Du’a for other Muslims in their absence; the Du’a
of parents for their children; the Du’a of those who are oppressed
or unjustly treated (whether Muslim or non-Muslim); the Du’a of
the broken-hearted and those distressed; the Du’a of every leader/
ruler/imam who are just and uphold justice (IMAM- ’AA-DIL); Du’a
of a Muslim traveller (MUSAFIR), etc.
