3. RIBERA DISTRICT
• It is situated out of the original city wall.
• Santa Maria del Mar, the basilica
• There were artisans, merchants, guilds…
• Half of it was destroyed in 1714 .
• The Palau de la Música is in this district

4. CHARACTERISTICS
• It’s an icon of Catalan Gothic
• It has space and it is simple
• Great light and acoustic

5. HISTORY
• Built between 1329 – 1383
• Situated under roman necropolis
• Damaged and restored several times (Fire,
earchquake, etc.)

• The plant has three naves with an ambulatory

• Santa Maria del Mar is the second church
more important in Barcelona.
• It is important because it was built by the
neighboors and promoted by the nobility.
• Nowadays the basilica is an important turistic
place in Barcelona.
