The Parthenon
The Parthenon is a temple on top of the
Athenian Acropolis in Greece. It was dedicated
to Goddess Athena, daughter of Zeus, her
nickname was Pallas,. Athene was the goddess
of war.
It was built around 447BC. That is more than
2000 years ago, and was finished in 432BC.
• The Parthenon was an Athenian temple for
900 years, after than it was a Christian church
for about 1000 years, and an Islamic mosque
  for 200 years.
After that, the Venetians put a bomb in the
Acropolis. The Parthenon was still standing
strong, but the Acropolis was destroyed from
the inside.
The Parthenon used arches to make the structure
stronger.
There were no real challenges the engineers faced
as they were building, but a major fire broke out
and made the roof explode completely.

The structure was dedicated to Athena and was
known as a temple. People believed going to the
Parthenon was a way of getting closer to god.
