2. *Any participant who has a paid internship* must pay US income tax. But don’t panic you can receive some of these taxes back, just follow the instructions carefully and ensure that you have submitted your details before the April 15th deadline.

3. How To Claim Your Tax Back

4. If you received a wage from your Host Organization then you are legally required to file a tax return, even if you have already returned home. If you are participating in a paid internship program, you MUST file a US income tax return by April 15th for the previous calendar year. This requires a tax return form (W-2) Form.

5. W-2 Form You should receive a complete form like this from your host organisation in January 2010

6. At the end of the calendar year, Host Organizations send all paid employees and Interns their W-2 Form. This form has details such as total wages received and total taxes withheld. You need this information to fill in your US income tax return properly. If you do not receive this form from your Host Organization by February 15th you must contact your Host Organization to send out a replacement.

7. The forms you need to complete your tax return 1. W-2 form – sent to you by your Host Organization at the end of the calendar year, with details of your total wages and amount of tax withheld. 2. 1040NR-EZ form – this form is for non-resident aliens, (ie. State Income Tax Form – These forms differ for each of the 50 states in the US, you will need to complete the form for the State that you trained in. Local Income Tax Form- (if applicable) These taxes will only be withheld in certain cities. Please check with your Host Organization about local statutory requirement, and if relevant, where to locate the necessary forms.

8. The deadline for filing tax return forms is the 15th of April for the previous calendar year. The earlier you file your tax return, the sooner you will receive any applicable refund 
