3. Lagerfeld started taking pictures when he urgently needed
pictures for a press kit. His friend and co-worker ,Eric
Pfrunder, pushed him too it in the late 1980’s
He, has then focused on fashion photography.
In 1987 he started photographing the Chanel press
kits, launching his sideline work behind he camera; he
shoots and styles Chanel ad campaigns
Karl Lagerfeld has himself shot all the advertising
campaigns for the brands he has worked for as a
designer.
4. His great passion for photography has led to several
works being published by Steidl (including The Beauty of
Violence in 2010) as well as dozens of series for the great
fashion magazines (Numero, Vogue, ...), information
magazines (Vanity Fair, Stern...) and specialised
publications (Connaissance des Arts, Interview...).
Lagerfeld shoots reflect his vision of the world. Often
influenced by silent films and his love for theatre
He has won the Lucky Strife design Award from the
Raymond Loewy Foundation and the cultural prize from
the German Photographic Society.
