BHAG <ul><li>Climb Mt Everest </li></ul><ul><li>Go to the Moon and back in 10 years </li></ul><ul><li>Lee Iaccoca saying, &quot;We are going to turn this company around!&quot; when he took over at Chrysler. He had a clear goal, a plan of action and strong conviction. And his company followed him. </li></ul>

  9. 9. S.M.A.R.T. <ul><li>Specific </li></ul><ul><li>Measurable </li></ul><ul><li>Attainable </li></ul><ul><li>Realistic </li></ul><ul><li>Timely </li></ul>
  10. 10. SPECIFIC <ul><li>Your goal needs to be stated in a way that is clearly defined. </li></ul><ul><li>Saying, I should work more, is not a goal that will be kept. However, saying, I am going to work a total of 8 hours each day, is a goal that is much clearer and specific. </li></ul>
  11. 11. SPECIFIC 2 <ul><li>Be specific about what you want to accomplish </li></ul><ul><li>Being specific gives you a target to aim for. </li></ul>
  12. 12. MEASURABLE <ul><li>Include a way to make sure you are on track. </li></ul><ul><li>“ You cannot manage what you cannot measure.” – Peter Drucker </li></ul><ul><li>A goal that says, I want to make more money, isn’t measurable. However, a goal that says, I want to earn $6000/month, is a far more measurable goal. It’s easy to see, at the end of the month, whether or not you achieved it. </li></ul>
  13. 13. ATTAINABLE <ul><li>Within Reach, but makes you Stretch. </li></ul><ul><li>You might have to learn a new skill or move outside your comfort zone to achieve the goal. That’s Okay. It’s for what you will become. </li></ul><ul><li>When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. </li></ul>

ATTAINABLE 2 <ul><li>If you want to increase your income this year, it’s not realistic to say, I’m going to win the lottery this year, because you have no control over whether you will win the lottery or not. </li></ul><ul><li>However you might say, I’m going to increase my sales efforts by cold calling 10 people each day, which is something you can take action on yourself. </li></ul>

REALISTIC <ul><li>To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. </li></ul><ul><li>Goes back to Motivation. </li></ul><ul><li>Goals that are actually achievable are much better and far more motivating. </li></ul><ul><li>You’ll feel better about yourself when you do hit goals than if constantly shoot for them and fall short. </li></ul><ul><li>Realistic goals should not be so easy that you hit them every single time but should not be so hard that you never reach them at all. </li></ul>
  16. 16. TIMELY <ul><li>Similar to the measurable attribute, your goal should have a timeframe for you to accomplish it in. </li></ul><ul><li>Deadlines help people achieve their goals. If you anchor your goal to a time, you’ll be able to watch your progress. </li></ul>
  17. 17. The Key <ul><li>The key to a Goal is that it will guide you to where you want to be. It is Strategy. It is part of a Plan. </li></ul><ul><li>Someone said that a goal is a wish that has been written down and dated. When you write it down and place a date on it (when you want to achieve it by), you are being Intentional. And your subconscious will begin to work on meeting that goal right away. </li></ul>
  18. 18. Benefit <ul><li>What is the Benefit of Accomplishing Each Goal? </li></ul><ul><li>What will motivate the company to meet these goals? </li></ul><ul><li>What’s the Why? </li></ul>
  19. 19. FOCUS <ul><li>“Goal-setting is powerful, partly because it provides focus. It shapes our dreams. It gives us the ability to hone in on the exact actions we need to perform to achieve everything we desire in life.” – Jim Rohn </li></ul>
  20. 20. Break It Down <ul><li>Develop smaller steps to accomplish the Goal – esp. for employees. </li></ul><ul><li>Small steps promote small successes toward your goal. </li></ul>

SUPPORT <ul><li>Who can you rely on to check on you and encourage you? </li></ul><ul><li>Select someone who won’t give up on you, dares to intervene, but is not an annoying nag. </li></ul><ul><li>Tell supporters what you’re trying to do, what they shouldn’t do, and how they can help you. </li></ul>
  22. 22. <ul><li>Encouragement </li></ul>Consider rewarding yourself. Rewards can be especially important when you’re depriving yourself of a cherished habit.
  23. 23. Performance <ul><li>Goals can give employees control over their own jobs and, at the same time, give managers a tool for monitoring their employees’ performance. </li></ul>
