Life has suddenly become social, at least technologically! And In this age of the internet, everything is dynamic. Even the kind
of career kids choose these days. In other words, their future is no longer dependent on the scorecard of their boards. Some
job pro les have become redundant due to algorithms and bots. And other new creative jobs have sprung up. In all, people
still have options to choose their career in. But the best options keep shifting from time to time. It just so happens to be, that
the skills required for a majority of these new jobs don’t get evaluated through the board result parameters.
The online industry is the key in uential factor today. Online money making is no longer the shady business that o ers you
100$ for each work hour. As businesses have shifted online, o late we have seen people picking up blogging, vlogging,
youtube stardom, web series, Facebook group administration, content marketing and many others as real ways of making
money online. These alternate careers are real careers in 2017’s internet age.
Central Board of Secondary Education has released its results state by state and the next step for students is to aim high and
pick speci cations. With the rising talent in all industries and people making name for themselves in di erent streams, there
is no shortage of Alternate Careers today.
My aim in this post is to showcase what kids passing out today need to keep in mind when picking a career. I want parents to
understand how technology would impact their kid’s careers, their recruitments, and businesses.

The recruitment industry has changed big time with the internet. This process has been building over time with tech
ventures such as Indeed.com, Monster.com etc. But as the availability and accessibility of technology is heading towards
its peak in India, new and old businesses have nally got accustomed to this new hiring process. Smaller Start-Ups don’t need
to rely on these big shot companies for hiring processes and pay commission.
Recruiters today check online pro les. Not only the professional ones like LinkedIn but also try and understand behaviours
based on your Facebook, Insta, SnapChat pro les. They judge your con dence levels, pressure handling and berserk
activities to gure if you would be a perfect t in their workspace or not.
Recruitment is also not only full time now. Freelancing is the name of the game today. Although dependent on job pro le,
but nearly all professionals can be found freelancing in one stream or another these days. And the internet is to be blamed
for this. It has connected multiple workstations around the world in real time. Outsourcing has increased and many
professionals have shifted to this platform for higher income. Sites like Freelancer.com and Elance have majorly boosted
availability of such professionals for time bound and project based outsourced assignments.
What stays common in both the recruitment processes is the need of a Strong social pro le of the job seeker. This my
friends, is, as professionals call it – Personal Branding. Here is how I am building my clients today through Personal
Branding.
What is Personal Branding?
5. Personal branding is the practice of people marketing themselves and their careers as brands.
It often involves the application of one’s name to various products. For example, the celebrity real-estate mogul turned
President of The United States, Donald Trump uses his last name extensively on his buildings and on the products he
endorses (e.g. Trump Tower)… Personal branding is essentially the ongoing process of establishing a prescribed image or
impression in the mind of others about an individual, group, or organization.
And this branding has showcased its importance for the recruitment process time and again. It can’t be understated.
Why is it important today?
A look into the past and Global icons like Coca-Cola with their logos on tv ads or pamphlets were called Brands. How and
when did this Branding go personal? Well, the answer is- With the start of Social Media Networking.
Pro le pictures, status updates, and followers gave a voice to everyone. This gave a reason for people to like and follow the
activities of in uencers they admired.
A connection is easier formed between individuals. A pro le picture instead of the company logo is better understood by
people. The personality and viewpoint can be admired when coming from a co- worker rather than a non-living brand. And all
of these reasons paved way for Personal Branding.
And when your recruiters are looking extensively online, they are sure to hire and shell out more for the in uencers they can
nd.

There are no community meetings anymore. People in WhatsApp groups and Facebook pages have taken their place. I

with any knowledge can do this. It’s an investment of time for money.

Now let’s look at it the Facebook way. Facebook pages and communities are the digital visualizations of an actual community
right? That means there will be people. And there we have our rst rule~ more the people, more the advertisers would pay
you.
“But I don’t see advertisements on Facebook community pages” ~ you might respond. Well, people are smart. They put in
advertisements into the content of some post they publish. They don’t make it seem like an ad. Heck! when my friend,
anonymously enquired about publishing a post on a Facebook page, they quoted 1,000rs. And when I made the same call,
the price was suddenly raised to 7,000rs after they heard a female talking. The page had around 30k likes. Apart from
these ridiculous prices, the point I am making is that a community ownership can result in money making. And a Facebook
page is just an example, this community building can be done on any platform. You can also have followers on your pro le
and that’s it. Your aim is to meet and connect with like-minded people. I although suggest you do it a decent way.
Here are the steps to building and maintaining social communities
1. It’s all about building a viewership, and trust me it can be about anything. So pick up any topic you like or have a
knowledge in. And surprisingly, this is the biggest step out of all. Why? Because your aim is to build an audience. This is a
long process. And most page owners stop after they reach 400 odd likes, as they run out of people they know or
they have already written everything they knew. Or maybe the viewership development is too slow to motivate them
anymore. Hence, I can’t stress enough on how important it is to pick a topic you really enjoy or know about. This will
help you catch like minded people and understand them better.
2. Hold regular polls to understand what your audience loves. With the like-minded audiences and your special interest in
the topic of discussion, it won’t be hard for you to meet their demands. Key is to make content for them, not yourself.
10. Keep your audience happy, surprise them, tell them facts. Don’t forget, you are making an online community. You
are the coordinator, it’s your job to keep them occupied.

3. Help the members of the page by publishing content that makes their life better, easier and joyful because a happy
community attracts new members. And let me be frank here, I am doing the same. These points are not just me
preaching. It is me practicing what I have learned and passing the knowledge that can make your life easier. Just because I
know that people stick to only those places which can somehow bene t them. Don’t we all want this? A page may
be for entertainment or your source of knowledge or something that lets you stay in contact with your old college pals. A
strong connection with your audience is important. And helping them out is the easiest way to build it.
4. And nally, the advertising: This is where I think we need to change ourselves. Don’t let the advertisers use you, Use
the advertisers. What I mean by this is that I nd people getting laziest in this last step. While, after a decent crowd
following, people would actually be coming to you to broadcast advertising, but don’t take this easy step. Instead, get up
and search for companies related to your page topic. If you truly want to pay your bills through the page you have put so
much e ort into, then don’t shy away from this. If you publish unrelated ads, your viewers may feel o . But that’s not the
main reason as to why I am stressing on this way too much.It’s because this one step will make you rise. An ad regarding
the topic you talk about by a company would help you get more audience. Moreover, since your community would
have an interest in it means the ad would get more clicks. And online, advertisers pay for the audience actions, not just
people opening the page post. And be sure, if you do this right and ful ll the need of advertisers and customers, you
would be a permanent part of all their online marketing strategy.

12. 1. Concept of Micro Celebrities
Today, there are celebrities with millions of followers and micro-celebrities with a niche audience. In many ways, Micro
Celebrities have a higher ROI(Return On Investment) as their small passionate community comprises of like-minded people
leading to higher penetration and thought share. Moreover, they cost a fraction of the Hollywood and Bollywood superstars.
Meaning people who create ads cast them in lead roles to attract their community towards the product they are selling.
An example can be Sumeet Vyas, appearing in Urban Clap’s TV ads. The ad producers know the age group they cater too.
And how much of that audience knows this micro-celebrity (Sumeet Vyas). Not to say he hasn’t acted in movies before but
the actor became a celebrity after TVF’s hit web series on Youtube. Building a niche audience is a way of earning in today’s
world. And with the help of platforms such as Youtube, LinkedIn, Instagram, these can come from any part of the world.
2. Digital Marketing
Digital Marketing is a huge part of the money being made through Social Media channels. Moreover, its the one that directly
impacts a company’s revenue. What TV ads and billboards were once, have shifted shape into the digital real coz lets face it.
We are hooked onto our phone so much, its hard to believe anyone pays attention to anything else that comes their way.
Here are the top Social Media jobs expected to rise. This list is no doubt topped by Digital and Content Marketing.
Digital Marketer’s pay scale depends on experience and growth numbers. But the cool part is that it has the least skilled
Employees currently. Mostly, companies pay any number for an e ective digital marketeras its a new eld, with a lot of
competition with huge international brands. And the way our education system is designed, it has the least skilled labour.

Podcast production, however, demands an engaging personality. Creative people with good sound editing and research
skills. Problem solvers with great communication skills.

With the growth of IT comes the need to Tech security. A wide range of organizations need the expertise of professional
hackers to secure data and money. The job comes with a high sense of responsibility and needs individuals with great IT skills
and a sense of adventure, along with a strong sense of responsibility and ethics.
According to CISCO, the annual salary of ethical hackers averages 5,70,000rs. That of Chief Information Security O cers can
range from 12 lakh to 80 lakh a year with an average of 23.7 lakh a year.
