2. The acuedect:
§ Was built in the first century and under the rule of the Roman
Empire
§ Was in use until 1973
§ Is one of the most important symbols of segovia
3. The monument's structure:
The remaining part is 28.5 meters tall(at
its maximum height) and 823
meters long..
There are 6 additional meters deep in
the main section.
Also 14 kilometres of rolling landscape
It consists of 120 pillars and 119 arches
built with a vaulted.
The first section of the aqueduct contain
s 36 semi-circular arches.
4. A little bit of history...
v The purpuse of this momument was to
convey water.(17 km)
v It was declared,with the old town of se
govia,a UNESCO world heritage site(
1985).
v It was placed on the 2006 World
Monuments Watch
5. The travel of the water
It begins in the Palace of La Granja bringing the
water to El Caseron.
Then by a stonework channel it goes to Plaza de
Diaz Sanz.
It begins to form two monumental rows of
arches,one on top of the other
6. More facts:
• At first the water from the
acueduct was used for public bathing and
water sources,and then for private
bathrooms and households.
• The monument has no cement holding the
20,400 granite blocks together
• It is subject to ongoing maintenance
7. Where can we see it?
The Acueduct is a major tourist attraction,
so its always open for us to visit it.
