Alexander the great Battle of
Guegamela
Part one
Part one
By Connor VP
The composition of the
Macedonians
The Macedonians were made up of groups of soldiers organized
in neat rows called phalanx. They also had peltists and cavalry.
Here are some soldiers in the phalanx
Here are the persians
Their army consisted of Persian Immortals which are like heavy
infantry, war elephants, peltists, archers, Bactrian cavalry, and
scythed chariots.
HERE ARE SOME PERSIANS
Here is the persian position
during the battle
Their army stretched two miles long and consisted of over one
hundred thousand troops
The armies faced each other
Persians to the left Macedonians to the right.
Alexander led his cavalry off the
battlefield
You might think he was afraid but he was actually trying to get the
persian cavalry away from the army so they can create a gap.
It worked and the gap was
created
Then Alexander ordered the Macedonians to charge straight into
the gap.
After ordering his men to attack he turned the cavalry around
and charged straight into the gap.
Meanwhile.........
and his peltists opened fire.
He had peltists behind him so when they left the peltists were
exposed and attacked
Here is a peltists and an archer
Meanwhile Parmenium’s forces
were being attacked
Parmenium was Alexander’s general and was in control of the left
flank.
Stay tuned for part
2!
