The French National Assembly voted Tuesday, October 14th 2009, in favour of adopting the bill to liberalise and regulate the national online gaming market. The bill passed by a majority of 96 votes with 302 in favour and 206 against and now passes on to the Senate for further debate.
The October 14th vote reflected the tone of last week’s national assembly debate on the subject, with 281 of the 302 yes votes coming from the Union for a Popular Movement Party, with support from the liberal New Centre Party. The bill was overwhelmingly opposed by the majority of the remaining French political parties.
