The development of professional expertise in medicine requires a lifelong commitment to education. During university training medical students encounter a wide variety of practical experiences making it difficult for them to monitor and evaluate their development towards clinical competence. The use of an eportfolio to collate feedback about their assessed performance can assist in making clearer connections between these experiences and aid in the transition to novice practitioners. Over the past year the University of Queensland’s medical program has been refining their approach to assessment in the clinical learning environment and has trialled the use of an eportfolio to manage the delivery of workplace-based assessments (WBAs). This paper outlines the design stages undertaken as well as the roadblocks that have been navigated concluding with an overview of the key lessons that emerged during the early stages of eportfolio adoption.

Demand for dialysis treatment in the United States has exploded over the past few decades due to the rising prevalence of poor dietary and exercise behaviors. Diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure have had devastating effects on the health and well-being of the public and have led to the creation of hundreds of new dialysis treatment facilities. In order to provide comprehensive and accessible care, administrators have started recruiting thousands of new technicians to perform routine patient care activities. This has resulted in many new employment opportunities for unlicensed allied health personnel who are looking for a career path that has relatively few barriers to entry. Those who choose to pursue this profession can complete their education and training through either an in-house program offered by the employer or through an independent educational institution such as a community college or vocational school that administers a certificate option specific to the specialty. After training has been completed, the technician will typically be required to pass a national certification examination.

JoAnne Bunnage, Oregon State University Does your institution face challenges efficiently generating, managing and reporting data required for national, state and university accreditation and assessment purposes? In 2012, the College of Public Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University instituted Activity Insight and set out to streamline their data management system. In this session the accreditation and assessment manager will provide an overview of their journey and explain how the College of Public Health and Human Sciences achieved nearly 100% faculty participation. Successes and challenges will be detailed for tracking outcome indicators, analyzing data and reporting insights needed to measure the College’s goals and objectives.

June 11, 2014 Achieve Webinar: Student Assessment Inventory Tool for School Districts On a webinar, Achieve provided an overview of the newly released Student Assessment Inventory Tool for School Districts, designed to guide district administrators and instructional leaders through a process to ensure that students are only taking the minimum number of tests necessary to serve essential instructional, diagnostic and accountability purposes. Beyond teacher-developed classroom assessments that are core to the learning process, it is clear that many students are required to take a host of additional assessments that have too little value. This tool is designed to provide an opportunity for district leaders to take stock and take action. Achieve was joined by state leaders who have been sharing the inventory tool with districts as a framework to guide reflection and decision-making, including Abe Krisst, Technology Readiness Coordinator, Connecticut State Department of Education and Nancy DePalma, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment, West Hartford Public Schools. The Student Assessment Inventory for School Districts can be access on the Achieve website at http://www.achieve.org/meetings-webinars

An individual success plan maps out what you, the RN-to-BSN student, needs to accomplish in order to be successful as you work through this course and complete your overall program of study. You will also share this with your mentor at the beginning and end of this course so that he or she will know what you need to accomplish. Application-based learning assignments are listed in the course syllabus with a Practice Portfolio Statement requirement element noted within the assignment itself. In order for you to successfully complete and graduate from the RN-to-BSN Program you must meet the following programmatic requirements: (1) completion of 100 practice immersion hours, and (2) completion of work associated with all program competencies. In this ISP, you will identify all of the objectives, tasks, and/or assignments relating to the 100 practice immersion hours you need to complete by the end of this course. Specify the dates by which you will complete each tasks and/or assignments. Your plan should include a self-assessment of how you met all applicable GCU RN-to-BSN Domains & Competencies (see Appendix A). ALL course assignments listing a "Practice Hours Portfolio" statement must be included in the ISP and are worth and recorded here as approximately 10 hours each. Actual clock hours must be recorded on this time log. General Requirements Use the following information to ensure successful completion of each assignment as it pertains to deliverables due in this course: · Use the Individual Success Plan to develop a personal plan for completing your practice immersion hours and self-assess how you will meet the GCU RN-to-BSN University Mission Critical Competencies and the Programmatic Domains & Competencies (Appendix A) related to that course. Show all of the major deliverables in the course, the topic/course objectives that apply to each deliverable, and lastly, align each deliverable to the applicable University Mission Critical Competencies and the course-specific Domains and Competencies (Appendix A). Completing your ISP does not earn practice hours, nor does telephone conference time, or time spent with your mentor. · Within the Individual Success Plan, ensure you identify all course assignments which may include the following: Memorandums of Understanding (MOU)(if Affiliation Agreement is not required); comprehensive lo ...
