how important – or not -- it is to add to ERP systems.
Certainly, vendors have been quick to seize the initiative,
adding social media packages to their ERP systems with
much fanfare.
4. Two-tier ERP
Enterprises once attempted to build an all-
encompassing ERP system to take care of every aspect
of organizational systems. But some expensive failures
have gradually brought about a change in strategy –
adopting two tiers of ERP.

It provides common database for online transactional
processing (OLTP) and online analytical processing(OLAP)
eliminating data redundancy and latency.
Big Data warehousing SAP HANA unleashes the potential of big
data with its ability to handle large volumes and variety of
structured an d unstructured data in real-time.
39. COLLABORATION WITH ESRI :
Esri is Environmental Systems Research Institute. It is an
international supplier of Geographic Information
System (GIS)
SAP collaborated with mapping specialist Esri to provide
businesses with a geographical view of their data to help
improve decision-making.
The aim is to provide a wealth of business and location
data on one screen, thereby avoiding the need for SAP's
customers to hunt for useful information in different
applications and databases.
40. COLLABORATION WITH ESRI :
By harnessing Esri's geographic information system this
move will enable SAP application users to view business
data, such as work orders and asset performance, on a
map in real time
With this system in place, users will be able monitor the
business processes and performance of individual sites,
projects and commercial units to make informed
decisions based on the data presented to them
Users will also be able to access Esri data through SAP's
suite of mobile applications so business users can make
use of the mapping data in the field.
41. COLLABORATION WITH ESRI :
Steve Lucas, president of platform solutions at SAP, said
the move will provide business users with the
opportunity to make more profitable decisions based on
detailed data. "SAP and Esri are helping users improve
business efficiency and confidently anticipate what
comes next in order to guide better, more profitable,
forward-looking decision making
42. SAP BIG DATA DNA INITIATIVE :
The Institute of Corporate Responsibility and
Sustainability (ICRS) is now in operation as the UK's first
professional body for people working in sustainability
and corporate responsibility (CR).
"Anywhere between 20 and 40 per cent of all sea food,
you think you're eating one thing, and in fact you're
actually eating something different."
43. BIG DATA VS CROWD SOURCING:
A 2012 Oceana report found that 39 per cent of 142 seafood
samples taken from various New York eateries and stores were
fraudulent. It happens in London and Paris as well. And when
you're paying £20 and up for a sea bass, you really do expect to
see the correct species on your plate.
Big data could give brands much-needed clarity on this issue
though. The International Barcode of Life project aims to build
a worldwide database of DNA.
Through the Life Scanner mobile app everyday Smartphone
users and nature enthusiasts can collect DNA from a species
and send off the sample to a laboratory for testing, through the
SAP University Alliances initiative.
44. The 2013 "Horsegate" scandal shook consumer confidence in
Tesco, ASDA and other UK supermarkets due to the discovery
of horsemeat in beef products. In May, British confectioner
Cadbury found itself in the spotlight when its products tested
positive for pork traces in Malaysia, upsetting the country's
Muslim population.
The technology also allows brands to identify cases of
overfishing, and enforce sanctions that remove the banned
species from their supply chains
