This is a presentation about virtual reality and augmented, it contains basics about the origin of VR and why does it work, and some application of AR and VR.

8. Virtual reality !
A Human-computer interface base on an (artificial) computer
generated environment perceived as reality using multiple
human senses.
~Dr. Henning (1997)
14. Perception loop
from : researchgate
Stimulus: external event that effects a sensorial system.
The rule is :
If we replicate the stimulus that you
usually would get by the real natural
environment and artificially create it
properly then the human brain can’t
distinguish between the real and the
virtual stimulus.
15. VR effect on perception loop
Conscioussness:
VR changes the internal psychophysical state (consciousness) and
make it accept something to be real.
we can create emotions (positive/negative), sensations (fear…) and
people cannot differentiate between the real fear and the artificial
fear. (negative / positive) emotions,
Proper artificial stimulus:
try to produce a stimulus as close as the real one using different
artefacts (Imagination). If the stimulus is badly recreated, it may lead
to bad consequences such as cybersickness.
16. When was the first VR tool ?
Tele-sphere mask by Morton Heilig in 1960
26. Etymology of Virtual Reality
✘ Phantomology / Phantomatic by Stanislas Lem 1964
✘ Virtual reality by Jaron Lanier
✘ Virtual Environments by Scott Fisher
✘ Artificial reality by Myron Krueger in 1983
✘ Cyberspace by Willian Gibson in1984
✘ Metaverse by Neal Stephenson in 1992
27. Are there any bad
effects of VR?
Unfortunately, yes!
28. Are there any bad
effects of VR?
Unfortunately, yes!
Some bad designed VR experiences can lead to :
✘ Cyber sickness
✘ Stress
✘ Congnitive la od
41. Augmented reality
Augmented Reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a
real-world environment whereby the objects that reside in
the real-world are "augmented" by computer-generated
perceptual
