The document outlines 5 types of liars: sociopathic liars who lie to get their own way without caring about others, compulsive liars who lie habitually from sheer force of habit, occasional liars who seldom lie but feel great guilt when they do, careless liars who are unconcerned with hiding or making their lies consistent, and white liars who justify small lies as harmless or beneficial. It also discusses how lying can become a habit due to desires for admiration, popularity, control, manipulation, or low self-esteem. Once lying becomes normal, it is difficult to stop due to the need to remember previous lies.
3. Sociopathic Liars
Sociopaths Liars are defined as someone who lies
continuously in an attempt to get their own way,
without showing care or concern for others. These
individuals are goal-oriented.
4. Compulsive Liars
often referred to as both Habitual and Pathological
Liars
Compulsive liars are defined as someone who
continually lies from sheer habit.
Lying tends to be their normal manner of
responding to any questions from others.
5.
6. Occasional Liars
Occasional liars are those who seldom tell a lie.
When they do, they are so blown away by what
they said that their guilt overcomes them.
These individuals are quick to ask for forgiveness
from the individual that they lied to.
7. Careless Liars
Careless liars will go about their normal lives and lie
every way they can.
This individual isn’t concerned about trying to hide
their lies or making sure they make sense.
8. White Liars
People who tell white lies don’t usually think of
themselves as true “liars”.
They justify their white lies as harmless, or even
beneficial, in the long term.
They will sometimes tell only part of the truth, and
not be suspected of lying at all.
White liars may use their lies to shield someone
from what they believe is a hurtful or damaging
truth.

10. If you tell the truth, you don’t have
to remember anything.”
Mark Twain(American Author)
12. Anything Can Become A Habit
Overall lying is just a part of human nature,
it’s something we learn to do; it’s something
we can control if we try hard enough.
However it has it benefits which is why we
continue to do it.
13.
14. Admiration and Popularity.
Want rewards and admiration without
actually working for it.
Want to gain attention and popularity.
15. Attention seeking
Certain individuals lie to make themselves appear more important, or more
successful. Maybe you were the only witness to an incident and suddenly there is
a special uniqueness in what you say, as no one else is party to this information.
Exclusive information tends to lead the person to think that they can embellish
their story in order to enhance their importance. So if you want others to always
tell you the truth, then it is important that you encourage an atmosphere that is
conducive to it.
Truth stems from inner strength and instils courage. Conversely, lies stem from
inner weakness and eventually instils fear in those concerned.
Truth is bold by nature. I guess at the end of the day, we all discover our own
inner truth
16. Control and Manipulation
use lies to gain control where they normally wouldn’t have
control
to manipulate others around them into doing what they
want.
The lying continues because of the thrill of getting away with
the manipulation or seeing that their attempt to gain control
worked.
might also need to keep lying to keep the control and
manipulation going.
17. Low Self Esteem
underlying reason a person might want admiration and
popularity or to gain control is usually because of low
self esteem.
feel down about themselves so they lie or make up
stories in order to make themselves look better to other
people.
constantly afraid that they will be rejected by people
exaggerate their good qualities or make up things
about themselves that they think will make them look
good to others.
18. I’m not upset that you lied to me; I’m
upset that from now on I can never
believe you.”
19. Crossing the line
All relationships come with a set of standards and expectations. Whether you are
husband, wife, CEO, manager or assembly-line worker, when you live in a society,
you are expected to behave in a certain manner and to abide by defined rules
and if you cross those boundaries, then you become unprotected and vulnerable.
Therefore, to safeguard your relationships, either at home or at work, you tend to
hide certain pieces of information so that no one knows that you have actually
crossed the line.
By doing so, you persuade yourself that you have complied and conformed to
the norms of your society
20. Becoming the norm
When one regularly conceals the truth, it becomes a habit that you may not
realize and can possibly be traced back to your childhood when speaking the
truth may have got you into trouble or made you realize that you could get your
own way if you withheld the truth. If you, as a parent, lie to your children, then
they will see this behavior as the norm and will copy you as they will see your
behavior as acceptable.
Of course, constant lying can become very stressful as the person has to always
remember exactly what they have said and to whom. They have to remember
which story was said and why.
In the words of the American author and humorist Mark Twain, “If you tell the
truth, you don’t have to remember anything.”
Those who lie as a matter of course have to live with their false information and
identity. Over time, impatience, insecurity, self-doubt and aggression become the
hallmark of the persistent liar.
