What is communication? <ul><li>Exchange of information, ideas, feelings etc by one or several methods. </li></ul><ul><li>Way through which we can communicate with a particular person, at any particular place, at any particular time and at our own convenience. </li></ul><ul><li>In short, it’s the exchange of thoughts, messages or information, as by speech, signal, writing or behaviors. </li></ul>

  5. 5. Verbal communication <ul><li>Clarity and Simplicity is the key. </li></ul><ul><li>Use understandable language. </li></ul><ul><li>Be precise. </li></ul><ul><li>Take up one item/one idea at a time. </li></ul><ul><li>Must state the action required, by whom and by which time. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Verbal communications <ul><li>Verbal communication are the type of communication in which we communicate with a person in oral or in writing. The verbal communication are as follows:- </li></ul><ul><li>Oral </li></ul><ul><li>Written </li></ul>
  7. 7. (1) Oral communication <ul><li>Oral communication are the ways of </li></ul><ul><li>communication that are done orally. In this type </li></ul><ul><li>we can hear the voice of the person who are </li></ul><ul><li>communicating. </li></ul><ul><li>The types of oral communication are as follows:- </li></ul><ul><li>(a) Face to face communication </li></ul><ul><li>(b) Telephone communication </li></ul><ul><li>(c) Indirect communication </li></ul><ul><li>(d) Video chat </li></ul><ul><li>(e) Public address system </li></ul>
  8. 8. (a) Face to face communication <ul><li>In this type of communication people meet the person to whom they want to communicate and then they communicate with each other directly face to face. </li></ul>
  9. 9. (b) Telephone communication <ul><li>In telephonic communication, we can talk with the person to whom we want to communicate. </li></ul>
  10. 10. (c) Indirect communication <ul><li>In indirect communication, message is passed out with the help of third person. </li></ul><ul><li>E.g.:- Mr. A wants to pass a message to Mr. C. So he tells the message to Mr. B to pass out the given message to Mr. C. </li></ul>
  11. 11. (d) Video Chat <ul><li>In video chat, we can communicate with a person through the use of internet. If both the person have the internet with webcam. </li></ul>
  12. 12. (e) Public address system. <ul><li>You all might have seen the use of microphone in your school assembly or various functions. It increase the sound and make it much louder. In this way our voice is heard clearly from distance. This is known as public address system. </li></ul>
  13. 13. (2) Written communication <ul><li>Written communication are those type of communication, in which we communicate with the person in writing. The type of written communication are as follows:- </li></ul><ul><li>(a) Letter writing. </li></ul><ul><li>(b) Telegraph service. </li></ul><ul><li>(c) SMS service. </li></ul><ul><li>(d) E-mail service. </li></ul><ul><li>(e) Chatting. </li></ul>
  14. 14. (a) Letter writing <ul><li>In this type of communication we write letters to the person, with whom we want to communicate. It also include letter writing, cards etc. </li></ul>
  15. 15. (b) Telegram <ul><li>Telegram is a way of communication, in which our message are (coded and decoded). When message are send they are coded and when the message is received by the receiver they are again decoded). Thus it is one of the way of communicating with different people. </li></ul>
  16. 16. (b) SMS service <ul><li>In this type of communication, we send message with the help of mobile or telephone and we can convey our message to others person through SMS. </li></ul>
  17. 17. (c) E-mail service <ul><li>In this type of communication, we send E-mails to the person, to whom we have to communicate with the help of internet connection. </li></ul>
  18. 18. (d) Chatting <ul><li>In this type, we can communicate with the person online or offline, but online chatting is the one of the quickest way of communication. </li></ul>
  19. 19. Non-verbal communications <ul><li>Non-verbal communication is a type of communication which is done through sending and receiving wordless messages. Non-verbal communication are as follows:- </li></ul><ul><li>Expression </li></ul><ul><li>Body language. </li></ul><ul><li>Gesture </li></ul>

  21. 21. (1) Expressions <ul><li>Expression is a non-verbal communication which is communicated through facial expression, eye contacts etc. </li></ul>
  22. 22. (2) Body Language <ul><li>Body language is a term for communication using body movements or gestures, instead of or in addition to verbal language. </li></ul>
  23. 23. (3) Gesture. <ul><li>Gesture is a form of non verbal communication made with a part of the body, used instead of or in combinations with the verbal communication. </li></ul>
  24. 24. Means of communications. <ul><li>People use to communicate with each other in different way. Some of the means of communication are listed below:- </li></ul><ul><li>Craving drawing </li></ul><ul><li>Story telling </li></ul><ul><li>Smoke communication </li></ul><ul><li>Drum communication </li></ul><ul><li>Birds communication </li></ul><ul><li>Telephonic communication </li></ul><ul><li>Internet technology </li></ul><ul><li>Mobile services. </li></ul>
  25. 25. (1) Carving drawing <ul><li>In early years, communication were done through carving drawings. People carved on the walls or canyons to tell the story. (stories of their culture, battles and hunts) </li></ul>
  26. 26. (2) Story telling <ul><li>Storytelling was used to tell stories, both fiction and nonfiction, before there were books. It was the way for families and communities to pass out information about their past. (history) </li></ul>
  27. 27. (3) Smoke communication <ul><li>In early years, smoke communication were another way of communicating messages to the people who were not close enough to use word with. </li></ul>
  28. 28. (4) Drum communication <ul><li>Drum communication were one of the way to send signal to neighboring tribes or groups. The sound of drumming patterns would tell them of the concerned event the needed to know </li></ul><ul><li>Even kings of early times, used drum communication to make announcements in their kingdom. </li></ul>
  29. 29. (5) Birds communications <ul><li>Birds were also used for the purpose of communication. In ancient years people use to communicate with each others by these means. </li></ul>
  30. 30. (6) Telephonic communication <ul><li>Telephonic communication is the fastest means of communication. We can communicate orally with a person all over the world. </li></ul>

Wireless communication <ul><li>Wireless is use to refer any type of electronic operation which is accomplished without the use of a “hard wired” connection, they may also accomplished with the use of wires. </li></ul><ul><li>Mostly used to transfer information over a distance without the use of electric conductors or wires. </li></ul><ul><li>The distance involved may be short (T.V remote) or very long (1000 or even miles of Km for radio communication). </li></ul>

Cordless communication <ul><li>Cordless is a type of telephone with a wireless handset which communicates (via radio waves with a base station connected to a fixed telephone line. </li></ul><ul><li>It can be operated nearly (less than 100 meters), from its base station. </li></ul><ul><li>Mostly used in and around the house. </li></ul>
  33. 34. <ul><li>Unlike standard telephone, a cordless telephone needs household main electricity to power the main station. </li></ul><ul><li>The cordless handset is powered by a battery which is recharged by the base station when the handset sits in its cradle. </li></ul>
  34. 35. (7) Internet technology <ul><li>Through internet technology, we can chat, e-mail even do video chatting with different persons all over the world. </li></ul>Text chatting E-mail Video Chatting
  35. 36. (8) Mobile service <ul><li>Mobile service is also one of the fastest means of communication. Through mobile service we can communicate with a person orally or even send text message through SMS. </li></ul>
  36. 37. (9) Video conference <ul><li>Video conference is a set of interactive telecommunication technologies, which allows two or more location to interact (two way video and audio transmission at the same time) </li></ul>

Things You Shouldn’t Do <ul><li>Read directly from notes </li></ul><ul><li>Read directly from screen </li></ul><ul><li>Turn back on audience </li></ul><ul><li>Slouch, hands in pockets </li></ul><ul><li>No um, ah, you knows </li></ul><ul><li>No nervous gestures </li></ul><ul><li>Talk too fast, </li></ul><ul><li>Talk too quietly </li></ul>
  38. 39. Things You Should Do <ul><li>Eye contact </li></ul><ul><li>Can glance at notes </li></ul><ul><li>Appropriate gestures </li></ul><ul><li>Questions to involve audience </li></ul>
  39. 40. Future expectation of communication technology. <ul><li>There may develop some more </li></ul><ul><li>faster means of communication, </li></ul><ul><li>as many research and development are going on in this field. </li></ul>
