get
back
on

and
to

In
his
hospital

Eric
could
easily
have
become
buried
in
self-‐pity.
Instead,
he
made
a
promise
to
himself
to
create
a
“new
normal,”
not
leOng
his
misfortune
put
a
damper
on
his
enthusiasm
for
life,
while
making
peace
with
his
new
prostheIc.
Also,
and
equally
important,
he
set
goals
for
himself:
Eric
wanted
to
race
an
Ironman
Triathlon
and
to
use
his
experience
to
inspire
others.
22
months
aSer
his
amputaIon,
Eric
crossed
the
finish
line
of
the
2013
Ironman
World
Championships
in
Kona,
HI.
He
has
raced
in
over
25
triathlons
to
include
3
full
Ironmans
and
has
inspired
audiences
across
the
naIon.
