2. Introduction to the Internet
The Internet brought an constant use case to the
computers and an innovation in the
communicational technologies. Besides the
complex physical connections which it is made
of, Internet now is a major facilitator of data
exchange. While maturising, Internet became the
home of the eCommerce and arranger for a
range of services such as e-communications and
it’s also being used for research purposes. The
immediacy of operations, made it a vital part of
our day by day lives.

4. 44.1 million people used the internet
daily in Great Britain during 2018
according to the United Kingdom’s
Office for National Statistics (ONS),
breaking the record set in 2016. There
were 41.8 million daily internet users
in Great Britain during 2016, the first
time the amount had exceeded 40
million. (Statista, 2018)
5. With its day by day growth and increasing demand, the connection speed needed constant
improvement. Statistic shows the average connection speed in the United Kingdom (UK) from
the first quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2017 (in Mbit/s). The connection speed increased
from 9.9 Mbit/s to 16.9 Mbit/s throughout this period. (Akamai Technology, 2017)
6. InternetLiveStats monitors
the active state of the
internet, and as at October
2018, there are
4,045,421,895 users on the
web. This is expected to
grow even more by the
year 2020.
The launch of smart-phones has radically
changed the quantity of web traffic
generated by mobile devices. With the
mobile revolution, the percentage of traffic
generated has multiplied by 3 in the last 5
years, with 16.2% of the total traffic being
generated by mobile devices in 2013 and
52.2% in 2018. (Broadbandsearch.net, 2019)
While the total percentage of mobile traffic
in 2018 is more than desktop, engagement is
higher on desktop. 55.9% of time spent on
sites is by desktop users and 40.1% of time

9. Video and us
The technology is shifting towards a graphic
type and the big companies rely on video more
than ever, with 81% of businesses using video as
a marketing tool in 2018 and that’s 18% more
than the previous year (Hubspot, 2019). Mark
Zuckerberg believes that video is a critical part
of our future and the stats presented further will
demonstrate that.
Video content is believed to be more visually
appealing to the consumers, therefore more
memorable and engaging. At this point of our
lives, video advertising became a necessity
rather than a bonus option with 6 out of 10 rather
watching an online video over television
(Google, 2019).
➔ Mobile video consumption rises by 100% each year. (Invisia, 2019)
➔ 78% watch online video every week. (Hubspot, 2019)
➔ Youtube is the second most popular website. (Alexa, 2019)
➔ 75% of all video plays are on mobile devices. (eMarketer, 2018)
➔ 85% of consumers want to see more video content. (Hubspot, 2019)
➔ On average people spend 2.6x more time on pages with videos than
without. (Wistia, 2016)
10. People are now online
for more than 24 hours
a week. We can see a
significant grow from
16.9 hours/week in
2013 to 24 hours/week
in 2017. In Britain, one in
five people spend more
than 40 hours a week
online and Britons, on
average, are checking
their phones every 12
minutes. (Telegraph,
2018)
11. The increase of
data consumed
over the years is
another proof that
the world is
converting to
digital, which
represents an
opportunity to the
marketers online. In
2017 there were
100EB of traffic and
330EB predicted
for 2020.
12. Digital Transformation
Digitalization brings new
opportunities for businesses to
engage with their customers,
generating new channels of
distribution.
Broadcast television and print
magazines are losing to digital
media, opening new ways of
exploration within the
informational fields amongst
the younger generation.
Individuals are reshaping their
behaviour in regards to the day by
day activities, moving their grocery
shopping or search for a date to
the digital world.
