The Evaluation
By Ajzane Bacchus
In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
• We choose to follow use a different style of horror movie in
which the audience follows characters who battling in a
gameshow. Much like the ‘Hunger Game’ series we wanted
the audience to develop bonds with our characters and for
them to root for there favourite
• Our opening sequence shows the style in which we want
our full product to follow: CCTV style game show. The
characters featured in our open sequence could be seen as
the protagonists however we would involve more
characters throughout the final product which would allow
the audience to relate to the different characters within the
film
How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
• While our opening sequence only follows two
characters if we would were to produce a full length
feature we would have showed more characters,
each representing different classes and regional
identities. Our opening sequence features two girls,
one black and one mixed race with asian decent.
This would allow the audience to relate to not only
the face value of our characters, such as dress and
gender, but also the emotions that each character
may face throughout our product
What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
• Our media product is likely to be distributed by an
independent media institution such as The Film
Collaborative. This is due to our film being an
independent film which would have a smaller
budget then distributes of films such as Get Out and
The Conjuring which would have greater budgets
and are Hollywood Blockbusters
Who would be the audience
for your media product?
• We would want to target our product at an audience
of 15-25 year olds, both male and female. With due
to the nature of our film genre and releases similar
to our product we see our audience as being from
an urban demographic from a working and lower-
middle class background
How did you attract/address
your audience?
• When we addressed who what genre and
characters we were going to feature in our product
we were then able to decide what audience we
would target our product at. As most genres have
different audiences attached it would mean that the
following of our product would have been defined by
the genre that we choose to follow. As Horror
movies tend to be followed by young adults and
adolescents, this is who we targeted our product at
and in turn the characters that we would use
What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
• I used various different technologies while creating our final
task. To film our scenes we used a HD Panasonic video-
camera. Learning how to use the camera and smoothly zoom
to help create the CCTV camera effect that we wanted to
achieve in our product
• I also used Final Cut Pro to cut and edit different scenes to
produce our final product. I used different themes and
transitions to build to add to the mis-en-scene of our product
• Producing my evaluation and other resources I have used
different iWork softwares, such as Keynote and Pages. This
has allowed me to develop my word processing skills
Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
• I feel that I have been able to improve my editing skills and
also the way in which I plan and produce my final product.
By taking the time to actually plan out fully, my group and I
were able to develop our ideas and rather than rush into
film, which caused issues within our preliminary task, we
took the time and filmed different scenes and this allowed
us to spot errors that we wouldn’t have had time to fix if we
had rushed into the project
• I was able to develop my editing skills by using different
filters and video effects to add to the mis-en-scene of our
opening sequence. I also experimented with different
transitions to help aid the theme of our product
