Daily log- this can be printed out and a bed check performed during the day. I have found that by checking bed board every 2 hours to check on possible discharges gives me a heads up on what is happening with the patients and the bed’s. I also give the wound/ostomy nursing staff a updated log for their use to verify what patient’s are on beds and if they should be. We can check the order status in the morning when the bed report is printed out to verify that patients have orders. When notified by the core usr that a patient has an order for a p500 the float usr will retrieve a bed from the vault (storage) and deliver to the patient’s room. Notify core usr that the bed has been delivered and place a laminated card in the front of the patient’s records. This will notify the core usr that the patient is on a p500 at discharge and they can call float usr with discharge. When a bed is either delivered or pickup and returned to storage the bed log needs to be updated.
*how does the group want to store bed logs? Paper or electronic? I will keep records of logs electronically if groups wants to email the daily log to me.
*Or paper the same way that we keep OHF logs, where to store the records?
At the time of discharge the float pool usr will retrieve the bed and laminated card from the unit. The notification to the core is just a courtesy to them and lets them know to watch for the laminated card when completing discharge and chart breakdown.
Return the bed to the vault for storage
*Do we want to leave the cards with the beds or in a file or in the vault?
The wound/ostomy nursing staff has been contacting the float usr’s of order placement. Thirty minutes from first notification.
The administrative note is to note what time the core’s call float and as a reminder that there is an order for a p500. There will be times that there are no beds available until patients are discharged from other P500’s and than they can be delivered. If the order is checked off has complete and the bed has not been delivered there is no way to track if the bed is there or not. Also it can serve as a reminder to which room the bed is going to.
These cards will be card stock placed in the front pockets and a different color so that they are noticeable.
