I didnt get to included everything I wanted in here, but I did get the cup in and thats the whole focus of this zone. Left out are both wings and the short deep and the deep deep. Wings will be talk to from the sidelines always, so they should be solid. The deep positions are more instinctual
2. The Cup The first and most important line of defense. Remember the 3 in the cup need to keep a proper spacing but must not spread out too much. We want them the offense to get frustrated and make the handlers throw high floaty throws over the top of the cup. Remember the proper way to follow the disc and how we deal with crashes.
3. When the disc is on the right side of the field, we set up like so. The point that is marking the man with the disc will be straight up forcing toward the sideline. The other point will be up with his back toward the sideline so he can see the disc and the rest of the field. The mid needs to stay active and not let the disc get past him into the middle of the field.
4. How to deal with poppers on the sideline. The added player is a popper, its his jump to come crash into the cup to reset the stall count. When he comes crashing in however we will have our point on the sideline come with him and double mark the handler. DO NOT LET THE OTHER TEAM CALL DOUBLE TEAM. They have a popper within 10 feet of you so you tell them you guarding them. Once the popper leaves however the extra marker needs to back off.
5. This is our transition for when the disc is dumped to the middle handler. -The point who was marking needs to get all the way up field to stop any throws out to cutters. He should be looking back towards the field to see any incoming poppers. -The mid needs to take up a position to stop any throws up-field back across the field. -The point that had his back to the sideline needs to run down towards the handler that just threw the dump and get big to approach the new handler. He should be stopping any dump throw right back to that sideline. This point now becomes the new mark.
6. So all at once the movement should look like this.
7. Once we get settled in with the perfect position in the cup we must focus on the handler with the disc. If the handler doesn’t immediately hit the swing pass we have to lock his options down. Since he is in the middle of the field this is where he will have the most options to throw. We will only be giving up the easy dump pass back toward this other sideline.
8. Dealing with a popper in the middle of the field. We don’t have the luxury of the sideline here so we cant crash like we did before. Instead of crashing we will just have to play physical with the poppers. If the popper is trying to cut into the cup from the middle then the mid will just have to put his
9.
10. The mid needs to get over to stop any poppers, so he needs to be paying attention to what is going on behind him.
11. The point who is marking needs the jump in front the the middle handler and get real big. He can not allow the dump throw right back and needs to stop the swing all the across the field.
