The document provides a planning and production schedule for creating a fanzine that combines football, the NFL, and the impacts of social media. It includes plans to create content on the positives and negatives of social media, how social media has impacted sports, prominent sponsors in sports, and an analysis of the racist abuse faced by England players after the Euro 2020 final. The production schedule outlines tasks like researching sponsors, setting up an interview, designing page layouts, and editing content over a three week period to finalize the fanzine.
2. Task 2: Idea Development and Planning U9 2.1
You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually interesting.
Analyse what you have gathered.
Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece – consider the conventions of your chosen
style/genre, think about the best methods to appeal to your audience.
Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you intend to
realise your project and what you will need to create/collect.
Planning will vary depending on if you are doing a web series, podcast or a fanzine.
Web-series: A script, storyboard, organisational docs and clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
Fanzine: Content outline, visual style, pagination, organisational documents.
Podcast: Script, organisational docs, clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
4. Mood Board Analysis
I found images of multiple football fanzines which show off half of my idea for when it comes to
production, these fanzines to me are a building block to get good ideas of how to design the cover
of the fanzine but also how the use of colour schemes play a big role in linking everything together
and making sure that the entire fanzine looks good and gets attention but keeps the person reading
interested throughout.
I then started to look for articles about the negative impacts and effects that social media has on
teenagers and in general and this links to the second part of what I’m trying to create in my fanzine.
The articles all show how bullying online and the abuse and following that comes from it always
stays around because once one person starts it becomes a sort of train and it doesn’t stop because
more people jump onto it even if they may be friends of the person that ends up in trouble.
I want to try combine the two for my fanzine because sport for me is a big part of my life and social
media is also a big part because this day an age social media plays a huge role in society and it has
slowly more and more become a bigger thing in sport and seeing how recent events like the racial
abuse after the Euro 2020 final when Marcus Rashford, Jaden Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed
their penalties and straight after the game these so called fans took to social media and began
commenting on posts with emojis of monkeys and saying they should never return to their clubs
and so on.
This was my inspiration and why I wanted to find articles showing that explain and show how social
media can seriously effect everyone of any age and any race.
5. Content:
In my fanzine I already know that finding some of the content that I wish to have could be difficult but after creating my
mood board and further research into articles looking into the impacts of social media and reading through those I can
see that if I give myself time to find an interview and something who is suitable to interview in order to get a good set
up which combines both sport and the negative effects of social media together in one.
Inside the fanzine I want to have a part on just social media and the positives and the negatives of it, a part on just
football and also the NFL just because they are the two sports that I know the most about but also I have seen the most
social media abuse come from these two sports, then I am going to combine the two and have a part there, then have
the interview but also an in depth look into the racist abuse after the European Championship final this year. This was
awful to hear about when the team had the country in love and the euphoria was incredible and within the space of 3
penalties and one Italian trophy lift it had all change and these so called ‘fans’ were racially abuse our 3 hero's for the
misses.
Mental Health: What social media can lead too
Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Disordered Eating, Drinking, Smoking and Drug use
6. Sponsors
The biggest sponsor is sport is by miles Nike.. Individual deals are through the roof for Nike with many GOATs of certain sports signed
up with Nike like Tiger Woods and Cristiano Ronaldo. Nike also spend billions on athletes each year.
Nikes contract with the NFL is rumoured to be around 220 million dollars per year while Barcelona receive around 150 million.
Pepsi- holds the number 1 position on this list in North America for sports sponsorship. The drinks company has a mammoth deal
with the NBA and NFL and is also a big sponsor of the NHL in North America, and sponsor cricket globally.
Outside North America PepsiCo also extended its limited partnership with UEFA Champions League and Europa League in 2018 for
the next three years.
Adidas- official ball carrier for the last two World Cup seasons. Adidas sponsor a variety of different sports such as tennis, golf,
cricket, rugby, baseball and hockey. In the world of international football, they have some of the biggest team sponsorship deals,
with teams such as Spain, Germany, Argentina, Russia, Mexico, Japan, Denmark, and Greece. The company also sponsors club football
teams such as Real Madrid, AC Milan, and FC Bayern Munich.
Coca Cola- an incredible $5.8 billion on global advertising and marketing in 2018! They have been the world sponsor of Olympic
games for more than 90 years and according to WARC, Olympic partners Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble would have spent $1.95
billion worldwide on the 2020 Olympics, while domestic sponsors like Canon, Asahi and Fujitsu will spend $3.33 billion
Red Bull- Red Bull GmbH is the Australian beverage company behind the Red-Bull energy drink brand. One can mention the big
names of the sports village associated with Red Bull such as R B Leipzig, FC Red Bull Salzburg, Red Bull Brazil, Red Bull New York, Red
Bull Racing or Scuderia Toro Rosso. Besides, the company’s slogan which is “Gives you wings” is used a lot in sports activities.
All these brands hold a major role in sport now with players who have deals getting that brand more attention like kids rushing out to
buy the new CR7 Nike football boots thinking it’ll allow them to play like CR7 himself or drinking Pepsi because you non stop see it
been advertised during a tv time out in the NFL
7. Euro 2020 Final- The game
On July 11th England and Italy would meet at Wembley stadium to conclude the European Championships of 2020 which had
been taking place a year after it should have run due to the covid 19 pandemic. England had finally broken their curse of losing
in the semi finals and had at last reached a final for the first time since there world cup win in 1966, the Italians hadn’t
featured in the final since 2012 when they were destroyed by Spain 4-0 so it was set up to be a thriller staged at the home of
football.
England sent the country into mass mania when a stunning counter attack was finished off by left back Luke Shaw after just
118 seconds, England would press for a second but couldn’t find it before half time… 45 minutes gone and England were half
away to a stunning victory. However 13 minutes from time after incredible Italian pressure Leo Bonucci made it 1-1 after a goal
mouth scramble in the England box.
Extra time would be carried out with not much happening expect Italian midfield Jorginho been lucky not to be sent off after a
late nasty tackle on Jack Grealish.. So that left one thing England’s kryptonite the penalty shootout….
Italy would go first and Domenico Berardi scored, England captain Harry Kane would follow to level it up.. Then came a
moment England fans must have thought football was coming home as Jordan Pickford saved from Andrea Belotti and
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire smashed England in front, Bonucci then levelled which then led to the moment
England fans were dreading as Marcus Rashford stepped up and hit the post, Federico Bernardeschi made it 3-2 which led to
more heartache for England as Jaden Sancho missed his spot kick leaving Jorginho with the chance to seal it for Italy but
Pickford made a super save to give England hope and up stepped 19 year old Saka needing score…. He didn’t and Italy were
champions of Europe and England were left in a place felt all too well by fans.. Losing in a shootout.
8. Euro 2020 Final- The Aftermath
Saka’s penalty ended England’s dream of finishing their dreams of becoming European Champions for the first time ever and
winning their first competition since the world cup in 1966. However what was about to happen no one would have thought of
or even dreamed of seeing after such a summer where the team really brought the country together.
Rashford, Sancho and Saka quickly had their social media comments filled with racist comments, monkey emojis, been told to go
home, leave their clubs and more. All because they missed a penalty. The Euros showed the whole country that this young
squad can win us tournaments they just need time and reaching the final was a major achievement and we should have been
celebrating the achievement and support the lads not bringing them down like this. These ‘fans’ are sadly a growing issue in
todays world because they are what is called a keyboard warrior. They will just sit behind a screen hoping to never be found out
so they make these comments.
Rashford, Sancho and Saka are all young players with bright futures ahead of them but to be subject to this awful abuse at a
young age can really damage the mindsets but the country stood up against the hate and really backed our young 3 lions.
England Captain and semi final hero Harry Kane said these were not true real England fans because true fans would have stood
up for the young lions and rallied behind them not tried to destroy them with hate.

Colour Schemes- Testing which colours work together, testing which colour matches the theme picked
Text Sizes and font choice
11. Production Schedule
Wednesday- Starting production. The first stage of my production came from beginning my first design ideas for my front cover.
I had some ideas in my head already and having been to the NFL London games over the past two Sunday’s the plan was to use
images I had taken during the games at White Heart Lane to create a more personal and self made product. I started going
through each picture but non of them really worked as I was hoping but I did find some that with some cutting and edging they
could become usable and that is what I set out trying to create.
Thursday- After I had spent the remained of Wednesday editing my own picture I made the decision to find a internet image of
a carton like football field and I was going to edit out a square around the center and put one of the images I had taken of the
real pitch and mix the two of the together. I began testing out the different pictures with this new idea and I finally began
making progress and seeing the difference this was going to make compared to if I had gone safe all the way through.
Friday- Friday I began looking at what was next for me as I had picked my final picture for using and had began working around
it and slowly had picked out fonts and the color that I was going to use for the text. The plan for next week is to begin writing
up my articles and finish planning for my interview and having the correct questions I would like to ask so everything is set and
ready to go for when the day comes to sit and record the interview.
WEEK ONE
12. WEEK TWO
This week was going to be mainly article and interview dominated. I felt giving myself the week was the best idea because I felt
this could end up running into next week just because I had a interview to get and needed to get all my articles written up in
good detail at that.
Wednesday- My first articles were going to be about the social media industry and how quickly that has risen to the sporting
world and how now sport relies on social media to help athletes earn money through sponsors and showing fans a little bit into
their personal lives. The second article would be on which sponsors dominate the sporting world, so this would be researching
the top athletes and finding out who sponsor them and what they get from these deals and how much they make. Which
sponsors have the most pro athlete deals since the sponsors first began rising more and more into the world.
Thursday- My next articles would be written up.. These would be one article about celebrities who have struggled with mental
health so this included me doing the research into some popular celebrities and finding some reports or interviews about the
struggles they had with mental health and how they dealt with the struggle but also how they went about fighting it. Then I am
going to be the doing the same thing but using athletes because my fanzine is on sports so I want to include an athletes story
about their mental health stories.
Friday- Plan out the interview so Saturday I can Sit down with Marlon and do the interview. Heading to my dads work for this
before Marlon leaves for retirement. Going to sit and make notes of his answers then write them up into detail. Make sure I
have a good amount of questions meaning I can mix and match certain ones. All write up my final articles about Euro 2020 and
the racist abuse that came after the final against the young 3 England players for their misses in the penalty shootout.
13. WEEK THREE
Wednesday- Using my articles begin testing and trailing out different page layouts with images and different styles of text or type
of font. I want my pages to really come across strong but also have the element of subtle so there isn’t too much and it becomes
confusing. My plan is to have the text running in columns or a single column depending on how much information is going into
that certain part. During my research I looked at Blowing Bubbles which is a West Ham fanzine and that design is really the idea I
want to base my pages off but obviously make changes because we don’t want to copy anything.
Thursday- Using InDesign I want to begin looking at how the text may look if I put it into columns and how this could effect the
final product should I go for that idea. I also want to use this time to go back and if I feel like my articles need some more meat
on the bones to go research more and really push my articles to a new level and really show off.
Friday- All this day is for is to go back and read every article, check my interview, check my page designs and layout and my front
and back covers. Any gaps or places needing extra information MUST be dealt with straight to prevent forgetting and then been
stuck in a situation of panic because I don’t know what on earth to type and include in order to fill these gaps in.
