Many sponsors decide to support a golf tournament for all the right reasons – they love the game, they like to
support the charity, and they see it as an opportunity to put their brand name, product or service in front of an
upscale audience of potential clients.
So, how do you get the most out of your sponsorship?
1. Understand what a golf tournament is. It is a day out in the fresh air, sunshine and heat. People are there to
have fun, relax and play a game that is idiotically frustrating, offers no body contact, and encourages grown
adults to carry on like high school lads. For the broad majority, it’s fun. Some players are actually very good at it,
and take it rather seriously. They are the minority.
2. PLAN. It’s remarkable how many sponsors pay their money and then forget to actually DO SOMETHING at the
event. Players get to the hole and there’s just a banner and nobody there. You get out of it what you put into it,
and some companies actively pursue a golf event networking policy, which is a great way to build contacts and
business, as golfers are generally a pretty sociable bunch.
3. Collect cards and follow up – gently.
4. DON’T BE SHY! Don’t be afraid to make your mark and let people know you are there. Do something nuts.
Hand out drinks. Hand out food. Have a mascot. Have pretty girls, or maybe ugly guys dressed as pretty girls.
Give something away. Every hole at the Beaver has a prize, so why not have a theme that reflects the game on
the hole? Get creative and be memorable. If you need some ideas, we’ve got plenty. Here’s a few:
a. Give away a company-branded product that people use – like a coffee cups, pens and garbage bags
b. Give away discount or freebie vouchers
c. Play some kind of a game, like golf trivia, with the winner in the foursome getting some balls.
d. Cold towels on a hot day are always appreciated. If they come from a pretty girl, even better.
5. Make sure that your staff understand what’s involved and that it can be a long, hot day. Make sure that they
are alive and kicking. Nothing worse than coming to a hole and being met by people who don’t want to be there
- it reflects badly on your company. We will try to look after them as best we can, but if someone doesn’t want
to be there, it’s better not to force them.

THE CHARITY
-
We are delighted to provide 33% of the event’s net proceeds to support The People Eye
Care Foundation (P.E.C.F) of Thailand, a volunteer medical outreach organization that
travels to rural community hospitals each month, performing cataract eye surgery on
those who could not otherwise afford this important medical hep. A dedicated team on
2-3 ophthalmologist surgeons, 6-10 nurses, auxiliary staff and volunteers donate their
time to carry out weekend eye missions, resorting the sight to anywhere between 100-
150 patients blinded by cataracts over two days. The dust and sun from working long
hours in the fields in rural areas of Thailand can cause the early development of serious
cataracts.
