For the first time in History,
machines were
powered by a new
type of energy: steam.
The Industrial Revolution radically changed
traditional forms of production. From the 18th
century, manufactoring was carried out in
factories. The first two sectors to industrialise
were the textile industry and the iron and steel
industry.
Industrialisation in Spain was
slower than in more advanced
European Countries.
The Industrial Revolution created a new
economic system: Capitalism
Capitalism is an economic system based on
private property. Society was divided into
two large social classes: The bourgeoisie,
who owned capital and the proletariat,
who whorked in return
for the money.
During the 18th century, a series of
thinkers advocated the need to end
social privileges and to give people
the right to elect their rulers this
movement was called the
Enlightenment.
