2. July 2009 – to Feb 2011 Chief Accounting Officer (acting CFO) in MTBC Inc., a US based health care
IT company recognized by Deloitte LLP as one of the fastest growing
companies in North America having offshore offices in Pakistan and Azad
Kashmir.
My experience in MTBC gave me extensive hands-on experience in senior management and business finance in an
International environment. I was involved in interacting and coordinating with investment bankers,
representatives of potential target companies, external auditors, consultants and business partners (local and
foreign).
As a member of executive management team, my responsibilities diversified from assisting in formulating the
company's future direction, supporting tactical initiatives, devising financial and tax strategies and monitoring the
implementation of strategic business plans.
Key accomplishments include:
Revamped the accounting system, prepared an IFRS/US GAAP compliant framework for books of
accounts of all three locations. Documented SOPs, accounting policies and prepared templates for daily
and monthly reporting, including budgets, cash flow position and forecasts, status of receivables and
payables. During my first month, reconciled all current accounts, fixed asset registers and made an
automated template for preparing local (IFRS), US (US GAAP) and consolidated (US GAAP) financial
statements.
Introduced month end close activity with a presentation on the financial overview, future outlook and
long term forecast of the company which was actively attended by other senior management members
and resulted in taking key decisions. Because of the efforts put in by the team, the Accounting and
Finance department won the ‘best team’ award twice during my stay (first time in history).
Took the initiative to develop the internal audit department from scratch. Devised job descriptions, hired
professionals, prepared work flows, supervised development of SOPs for key business processes,
developed internal control review checklists and monthly internal audit reporting templates.
Led a team of over 20 graduates working in the business analyst role and successfully completed multiple
projects resulting in operational efficiencies, cost savings and client satisfaction. Goal was to challenge the
status quo, critically analyze the system, research best industry practices and come up with more efficient
and cost effective ways of getting the same tasks done.
Being part of the acquisition team, managed potential leads for acquisition, requested and evaluated
initial information to ascertain as to whether the lead fits the company’s profile and is feasible for second
tier discussions. Performed due diligence reviews and after consensus with management, finalized the
minimum and maximum bid price. Was involved in 3 asset purchase agreements during my tenure
increasing the revenue of the company by over 60%.
Successfully concluded International Audit on consolidated financial statements under US GAAP.
Highlighted the need for revamping the transfer pricing methodology followed by the company as a part
of tax planning exercise. Hired Deloitte LLP as the transfer pricing consultants and concluded the
assignment resulting in significant tax savings for the company.
