2. Raster Graphics
• Give a definition of Raster Graphics
The definition of Raster graphics is by that they are made by Bitmap. This is by A raster is a grid of X and
Y coordinates on a display of space. A raster image file identifies which of these coordinates to
illuminate in monochrome or color values. The raster file is sometimes referred to as a bitmap
because it contains information that is directly mapped to the display the grid. As the Raster is been
brought up in pixels as this is what it’s made of. The larger the image, the more disk space the image
file will take up. For example, a 640 x 480 image requires information to be stored for 307,200
pixels, while a 3072 x 2048 image (from a 6.3 Megapixel digital camera) needs to store information
for a whopping 6,291,456 pixels. Also the way it will be compresses has fixed the resolution of when
you don’t lose any details that will be the key in the image. typically be scaled down with no loss
of quality, but enlarging a bitmap image causes it to look blocky and "pixelated." For this
reason, vector graphics are often used for certain images. These are the following logos as
this would be made to varied sizes.
3. Vector Graphics
• Give a definition of Vector Graphics
The definition of the vector graphics, is the following. When wanting to to have to change sometimes going
from one program to the other and also by saving it over and over again. As the size doesn’t matter if it
is big or small files. This matter when you compress images fro one thing to another. As this also means
that there wont be any loss in each times you change save the image of when to compress it wont have
any effect on the way it look it still keep the same definition as it was originally the same. As the
variation of sizes which it can come both in big and small is good because the way it can be put on to
billboards and logos. This is good for the individual business to get there different advertisements been
used and also for game logos as well. As which this is good for business that the way it compresses it
keeps the same look as which you want it to be opened multiple times.
5. JPEG
Stands For Joint Photographic Experts Group
Used For/Example JPEGs are used with in saving individuals
and also been used for websites formats
and with photographs which have been
brought on to websites.
Advantage The advantages of using this type of Raster
graphics. This type of graphics are good for
saving images easily. Also a good way of
keeping photographs which it can be
opened on multiple options on to various
devices.
Disadvantage The disadvantages about this type of
Raster graphics. Which are that there can
be a loss of the quality of the photograph
this is done by the way it has been edited
which is due to compressions, as when
they have made due to various times of
doing it again and again.
6. TIFF
Stands For Tagged Image File Format
Used For/Example It has been used for desktop publishing
and which is used with most of the
popular graphic designers.
Advantage The advantages using this type of Raster
graphics can save multiple pages of
documents to one single TIFF file. As which
this is good as you wouldn’t have to save
them to other various files. As which this
has been produced on Adobe which is
within a design document. It doesn’t lose
any quality of the image due to
compression.
Disadvantage However, the disadvantages of using a TIFF
but however it has the occasional lossless
to the compression.
7. GIF
Stands For Graphics Interchange Format
Used For/Example This type of graphics is used for short
digital animations which can easily been
seen on the internet or even YouTube.
Advantage The advantages of having this kind of
animations which has been used to see
the images been moved around the page
of the screen in a type of serious on a
continuous loop of that goes on.
Disadvantage This image which is on a continuous loop
cannot been seen as a displayed as image.
The type of clip which you are uploading it
to may not have the capacity to upload
that well as which it wouldn’t have much
of a memory.
8. BMP
Stands For Bitmap Image File
Used For/Example Bitmap image file are used for to define
the device- independent bitmaps in
various colour resolutions.
Advantage The advantages about this Raster graphics
type is that they are very similar to a Tiff
and a JPEG. In the images there wont be
any loss in the way it will look as when it
has been compressed.
Disadvantage The file sizes can be to big as this can be
the reason of how many number of
colours have been used into one image.
However with the data compression as
this can shrink the size of the pixels data.
Also by this it must be expanded before
been used again and by this it will slow
down the reading for rendering process to
be done.
10. PSD
Stands For Photoshop Document
Used For/Example PSD file is layered image file used in adobe
Photoshop. As used for saving images.
Advantage PSD files are usually a large size type of file
and capability to save significant amounts
of information fro files, as which this
would make it a better choice to work
with. As the PSD files are extremely big, as
since there wont be any lose to the image
to the compression.
Disadvantage Not many people would be able to open
the document up as it opens on to
Photoshop as many people won’t have this
kind of program within there computer or
laptops.
11. AI
Stands For Adobe Illustrator Art
Used For/Example They are used for logo creations as most
graphics use this to make these logos for
there companies.
Advantage As it is a vector based program it allows
the creation of graphics that are scalable
to any extent without losing resolution,
with crisp and sharp lines that are perfect
for print.
Disadvantage Certain email programs, file-sharing
systems, and other transferring options
don’t like to use AI files because of their
size. files that are much bigger than your
average text file.
12. FLA
Stands For Flash file
Used For/Example This is used for creating animations and
games.
Advantage The advantages about this type of vector
graphic. Is that with this file you can
produce and high number of good quality
of the file with saving it to a small number
file size. As this makes it easy to send to
other people by already making into a
smaller size. As well it can also include the
features of sound and video within it.
Disadvantage The disadvantages about a flash file is
which that most devices probably can’t
read the flash file.
13. WMF
Stands For Windows Metafile
Used For/Example These are used for logos as well.
Advantage The advantages about this type of vector
graphic are the following. It can be scaled
big or small as long as if the Vectors don’t
have any effect of loss in the definition of
the image. They can contain both Bitmaps
and Vectors components in it.
Disadvantage These types of files are only open to
window platforms as this means they can
be only opened to these programs.
15. Compression
Definition Compression means to reduce the file size
and which which will save space on where
ever you are saving it to. As this applies to
images, audio and video files.
Advantage The way the file has been stored to the
way it has been compressed compression,
used in zip file technology, will typically
reduce a file to 50 percent of its original
size.
Disadvantage The way the file has been sized to be
compressed as an file. However there can
be problems when trying to compress an
video or an audio file won’t be able to be
made an smaller than it actually is. As this
will result into the file size to larger than it
original was in the first place.
16. Image Capture
Method Scanner
How is it used for image capture of
graphics
As you can take digitise physical images for
example like sketches, physical
photographs even mixed products.
Method Camera
How is it used for image capture of
graphics
You can various images.
Method Graphics Tablet
How is it used for image capture of
graphics
For a graphic tablet as this is a piece of
technology as you can control by using the
mouse like as a pen. This gives you much
more control of drawing of whatever you
want to draw of a selection.
17. Optimising
Why would you optimise? You have to get the right balance between file
size and picture quality. It is an essential step
though. Look at any webpage, and you will see
that most of its load time comes from images.
Your website will be needlessly slow if you don't
drop the sizes of these images. There are three
key areas where bytes can be shaved off your
graphics: bit depth (number of colours),
resolution, and dimension.
How can you optimise? As you can easily optimise an image is by using
the Photoshop as this will change the image
size.
Advantage to optimising As by optimising an image it will make it much
easier to access a website, as this will done to
this images.
Disadvantage to optimising The disadvantages to optimising is that the
images shouldn’t not be more than 500 pixels
wide. As if they are then this would make the
website slower down and so not as many people
19. File Size
What could affect a Working Scale (Photoshop)
document file size?
Although a digital image contains a specific
amount of image data, it doesn’t have a specific
physical output size or resolution. As you
change the resolution of an image, its physical
dimensions change, and as you change the
width or height of an image, its resolution
changes.
How could you reduce the file size of a
Working Scale document without affecting
quality?
You could see what size the actual document
size of the image will be before just putting on
to the program. As this will make sure that the
size of document will fit the preferred size so
then there won’t be any problem with the
quality of the document.
What is an advantage of scaling up images
before exporting?
The advantages is scaling the images up is good
before exporting then you would get the full
size of the image and plus no loss to the quality
of the document.
What is a disadvantage of scaling up images
before exporting?
The disadvantages of scaling up before
exporting is by making it harder to send or even
publish off.
20. File Naming Conventions
What naming conventions could you use
when creating your video game assets?
Once you've identified your organization
hierarchy, you can start creating your
naming convention. In this section, we've
listed some of the most common naming
options people use with Pardot.
• icon (e. g. question mark icon for help
content)
• Img (e. g. a header image inserted via <img
/> element)
• Button (e. g. a graphical submit button)
• Bg (image is used as a background image in
css)
• Sprite (image is used as a background image
in css and contains multiple "versions")
Why is it a good idea to accurately name your
assets?
The reason we name our assets because as we
don’t get confused of where your work is.
21. Asset Management
Why would you use folders when storing
your assets?
You would use a folders for specific parts
of your work so that it makes it more
organised , so when you next come to it.
It will be easily to collect it.
What folders would you create and what
would you save within them
If I was using Photoshop I would make one
particular folder named Photoshop file
edits and then I would have another
folder Photoshoped finished. As by
having these two folders it would make
it more access able to get to the various
images which I wanting to get. As this
would also make it quick and easy.
