  2. Public Sectors Provide services that are necessities, for the good of society, and enable fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts, leadership etc. (Lunn, 2021, p.3)
  3. Chuck Bailey Rec Centre Address: 13458 107A Avenue Surrey, BC Service Sector: Public sector - This recreation centre provides access to activities and programs related to Fitness, sport, age-related programs, events, arts, leadership, etc. (e.g. Gymnasium, fitness studio, seniors lounge, preschool programs). These programs are necessary for the “good of society” (Lunn, 2021, p.3). Connection to SPSC 2210: Connects to recreation as the recreation centre provides access to programs and activities that are “essential to a person’s physical and social well-being and to overall quality of life”(Lunn,2021, p.5). Furthermore, the rec centre provides access to opportunities and activities that are “deemed valuable by society” (e.g. reading room, skate park, basketball courts.) Surrey, BC Service Sector: Public Sector- According to Lunn, the following criteria of the park categorize it into the public sector category: Access to the park is for the public good and access to it is free, costs of the park are paid through tax revenue, the focused clientele is the general public (2021, p.3). Connection to SPSC 2210: Connects to recreation as the park acts as a means of satisfying a person’s “fundamental human need[s] (Lunn, 2021, p.5). As mentioned on the website, the park is considered the “central park of surrey” (City of Surrey, 2021) and thus “play[s] a significant role in the creation of cohesive and quality communities.”(Lunn, 2021, p.5).   5. Unwin Outdoor Pool Address: 13313 68 ave. Surrey, BC Service Sector: Public Sector- Access to the park is for the public good and access to it is free. Costs of the park are paid through tax revenue. The focused clientele is the general public. In addition to this, The City of Surrey works alongside the non-profit organization Red Cross to provide swimming lessons at a cost (City of Surrey, 2021).   6. Commercial/Private Sectors Provide services that are offered for a cost and are “profit oriented”, based on “consumer desire” and generate “revenue from fees” (Lunn, 2021).
  7. Landmark Cinemas Guildford Address: 15051 101 Ave, Surrey, BC Service Sector: Private Sector: Services are offered for a cost and are “profit oriented”(Lunn,2021, p.6). The service provided is access to films which is based on “consumer desire”(Lunn,2021,p.6). Furthermore, the originating authority of the cinema is a corporation known as Landmark Cinema of Canada Inc. Connection to SPSC 2210: It connects to recreation as it provides a service that is “deemed valuable by society” (Lunn, 2021, p.3) however are not a necessity for well-being. It provides the services for the purpose of entertainment, which is paid through fees paid by the customer.   8. Orange Theory Fitness Address: 12101 72 ave, Surrey, BC Service Sector: Private Sector: Services are offered for a cost and are “profit oriented”. Connection to SPSC 2210: It connects to recreation as it provides a service that is “deemed valuable by society”.   9. World Martial Arts Address: 11939 88th ave, surrey, BC Service Sector: Private Sector- Services are offered for physical education and wellness, however at a cost. The service offered is not a necessity for human well-being however it does satisfy “consumer desire”(Lunn,2021, p.6) for self-defense knowledge. Furthermore, it’s finances are based on “revenue from fees” categorizing it as part of the commercial sector (Lunn, 2021, p.6) Connection to SPSC 2210: Connects to Physical education - Their values are based on “educat[ing} and train[ing} our students and families so that they are empowered to protect themselves and to maintain optimal health.” (World Martial Arts, n.d.). As such, they are providing access to a for profit service that educates individuals on living healthier lifestyles and self-defence.   11. Boys and Girls Club Address: 11339 84 Ave, Delta, BC Service Sector: Non-profit - Relies on support from sponsors and fundraisers to maintain and provide services. Connection to SPSC 2210: It connects to recreation and physical education as the club gives access to programs that include arts and crafts, game nights, and overnight camps. They also provide physical education through their sport development programs.   12. REC For Kids Society Address: 13379 68 ave, Surrey, BC Service Sector: Non-profit - Relies on support from sponsors and fundraisers to maintain and provide services. Furthermore it doesn’t consist of paid staff, rather it relies on volunteers to serve as staff. Connection to SPSC 2210: Deemed as Recreation as REC for kids provides access to facilities and equipment that allows participation in sport and leisure. Furthermore, as stated on their website, they provide their services to allow children to be healthy, to be active and to have fun. Tong Louie YMCA Address: 14988 57 Ave. Surrey, BC Service Sector: Non-profit - Its financial base is funded by grants from municipal, provincial and federal governments and through sponsorships. As stated by Lunn, another factor that makes this institution non-profit is based on the idea that program fees are charged “to generate enough profit to cover costs only” (2021, p.8). Connection to SPSC 2210: Deemed as Recreation as the Tong Louie Family YMCA offers programs such as day camps, fitness training and aquatics.
