  4. With the Current trends in Entertainment and Media, the world is expecting the next revolution from this industry as this industry has always been among pioneers in adapting new and trending technologies and concepts. Internet of Things will introduce more connectivity, and greater service customization through Entertainment Channels.
  5. With internet of things, there are so many possibilities for Entertainment industry. Let’s go through three examples in the timeline. With the development of Google glass and later smart contact lenses, one can attend a concert and see the lyrics of the performed songs in front of him/her and be able to sing along even if he/she has not memorized the songs. Further along the line, it is expected that the personal and wearable devices as well as smart rooms would be able to detect users’ moods and suggest music, movies or TV shows based on their current moods. These suggestions would get more accurate the more user uses them. Another example for TV series and competition shows is that with connectivity users will be able to vote for their favorite character or TV shows on the TV screen while they are watching the shows. Moreover, the internet connectivity, more accurate information about viewers of different shows and people’s preferences would be gathered and will be used to ensure better quality of entertainment. We believe that with Internet of Things, more people and devices can get connected to each other and in the long run, the limits and borders will fade away. An example is that IOT can be used in news gathering based on the location of users. News Agencies can use querying the IOT to see which multi-media capable devices are present at a certain location and send them an offer to collect multimedia footage about a certain event.
  6. All these technology trends are unavoidable, however, to better prepare the society and agencies to use the technologies, it is important to think about the implications of IOT in the entertainment industry and try to plan for complexities from now. Consumers: now a days, with tremendous amount of entertainment channel available to users for free or a very low price at their convenience, users have less social interactions than a decade ago. With IOT simplifying and creating more entertainment channels available for users, it is expected that this social interaction would further decrease and societies might not approve the level of interaction that is expected in future. Moreover, customers are worried about the privacy of their data if more devices start gathering more personalized data from customers daily habits. In other words, people may feel a resemblance to George Orwell’s dark vision of a government observing their every move. Another important issue with consumers would be the learning to manage their devices effectively as with the increased number of multi-media devices, it will be harder for customers to manage all devices at the same time. In fact, there might be a need for an intermediary device that can manage all other devices at the same time. On the other hand, consumers would enjoy an era of more productivity and solutions that are tailored to individual’s needs. Governments: Governments would need to create rules to protect copy rights and intellectual properties as with IOT, it will be more difficult to govern the correct use of information, media and different channels of entertainment such as Audio or Videos. Developers: With IOT, developers need to create standards for inter-machinery communications as the number of devices connected increases. Moreover, without enhancing the battery life of the devices, devices might not be as attractive to users. We believe that with the overload of data and people’s private information, there would eventually be a need for a central data directory to prevent the duplication of information in the network. FIRMS: We believe that for the next revolution to happen, the telecommunication companies need to expand and create a better network infrastructure in order to increase capacity, availability and reduce price of the internet for the Users
  7. The first is Disney’s magic bands, has a few different functions including, being used as a room key for on-site guests, parking ticket, FastPass and as a credit card. The magic band contains an RFID tag, which is encoded with details about the users including their name, and credit card information. These magic bands allow the user to be able to purchase things with a flick of the wrist. For younger users, the limit can be set so that the spending can be controlled. Memoto is a device that allows people to clip the device to their shirt or to any object and take a couple of pictures every minute (however, it can be set to a faster setting). The device will allow storage of pictures in the cloud so that people can upload them to social networks later on. Although the product is currently not on the market, the product has had a very successful Kickstarter campaign. These devices could be used by travellers to document their travel experiences, which could potentially be uploaded. However, pictures of ‘bad’/below standard items could also be documented easily and will push hotels to live upto a higher expectation. Restaurants can show the nutrition status and reviews of certain dishes, beers, wines and could recommend http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yyRJG2rrw0E#t=0
