3. Introduction
• A clutch is a mechanical device that engages and disengages power transmission especially from driving shaft to
driven shaft
• To engage the clutch, the clutch pedal is released and the release bearing moves away from the pressure plate.
This action allows the pressure plate's springs to force against the clutch disc, engaging the clutch to the flywheel. ...
A mechanical or hydraulic linkage usually operates the clutch in a manual transmission.
• automated manual transmission and an IMT are both regular manual gear boxes in an AMT the actuators and
motors change gears and operate the clutch.
• In an IMT on the other hand the software and actuators only control the clutch while manually shifting gears
• In CAMT system there is no software and sensors is used, in this system clutch operates with the mechanical
parts only Without clutch pedal
4. Literature Review
Clutch actuation system
•In an internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicle, the engine is connected to the rest of the
powertrain through a coupling device, which can be a clutch or a torque converter.
•One of the roles of the clutch (torque converter) is to temporarily interrupt the power flow
between the engine and transmission (e.g. to allow a gear shift).
• a vehicle with manual transmission, the clutch actuation system (mechanism) is the interface
between the driver and the clutch, which allows the driver to control the connection (engagement)
and disconnection (disengagement) of the clutch.
•A clutch actuation system can be mechanical, hydraulic or electrical (by-wire). The mechanical
actuation systems can be with metallic bars and rods or with metallic cable.

5. Problem Formation and Definition
1. Hydraulic clutch
• The cylinder may start leak due to presence of oil and high power transmission
• Clutch disk may be worn out .
2 . Cable clutch
• May gives Hard clutch pedal when operating.
• May clutch pedal sinks to the floor.
3. Electric clutch pedal
• Initial cost of the ECP is high.
• The brushes used to energize coils are needed a periodic check.
4. Manual transmission
• Due to the manual operating of transmission it may painful when operating.
• Stopping on a hill and starting again can be inconvenient as well as scary.
• Learning curve, those learning to drive a manual can expect the first few drives to involve
jerking and stalling while becoming accustomed to the clutch and shift timing.
6. 5. transmission problems
• In automatic transmission grinding and shaking sensation in gear may accurse.
• Car wont Engauge or respond when in gear.
• AT may makes noises like whining, humming, or clunking, noisy in neutral
• May Smells like its burning.
• Gears slipping may accurse due to automatic transmission.
• When automatic transmission takes place it may cause in leaking the fluid.
• CVTs are not without mechanical problems , and as with conventional automatics, it can be
expansive tore pair or replace a CVT. Search the website www.car complaints.com and you’ll find
a number of common issues with CVT’s. these include overheating, slipping, jerking, shuddering,
and a sudden loss of acceleration.
7. Objectives
• ACT gives better fuel efficiency.
• Very smooth gear-shift operations.
• No loss of torque transmission from the engine to the driving wheels during gear shifts.
• In hydraulic bearing low friction is produced than mechanical clutch.
• Hydraulic bearing is oil operated clutch.
• Self lubricated-hydraulic bearing is oil operated clutch.
• Require low maintenance.
• In hydraulic bearing height of pandal is adjust automatic.
• Easy operate-hydraulic bearing is easy and fast operate than mechanical clutch.
• Hydraulic clutch is more reliable than mechanical clutch.in hydraulic clutch system no any
problems is create during operation
• No cable required
8. Scope of work
• Automatic transmission is better and having more fuel efficient then manual transmission. Which
reduces efficiency by up to 10% in most cases, the cost difference b/w MT and ACT is Rs 40,000-
50,000 in India.
• Automatic clutches are designed to provide pulling power, to move at high speeds, to travel in
reverse as well as forward, and to operate on rough terrain as well as smooth roads.
• The purpose of auto motive clutch to be use in cars with transmission that are shifted by hands, it
allows the driver to couple the engine to, are uncouple the engine from the transmission…… when
he lets the pedal again ,the two plates come together
• ACT is mechanically similar to a manual transmission, except that the sensors and actuators
perform the clutch work and shift gears a car with an ACT doesn’t have a clutch pedal; there is only
the accelerator and break pedal.
• In CVT engine is always operated at a favourable speed that gives best engine efficiency, where as
AMT engine is not continuesly operated at a speed that gives out the best efficiency….. The CVT
transmission is better because it has infinite gear ratio. Also, CVT is smoother than ACT.
• ACT does not hamper the performance. The electric and the gear shift are more precise compare
to human input and offers excellent performance while driving an ACT car. Also, can shift to a
manual gearbox to let the driver change the gear without the use of clutch
9. In an CAMC there is a clutch that exists but it is operated
mechanically with the help of leavers, gears, springs and not
by clutch pedal that needs to be pressed every time one
want to change gears
10. Hydraulic clutch actuation systems
• master cylinder
• reservoir
• piston
• high pressure line (pipe)
• slave cylinder
• pushrod
13. Methodology of the project work
•CAMS system work with the help of spring mechanism which consist of lead rod ,bush ,helical
spring , clutch wire
•when accelerator pedal operated then the clutch wire pulls the bush which attached to lead
rod and bush starts to move backward & Bush starts compressing the spring
•when pressure applied is removed on pedal, the spring expands and it makes clutch rod to
disengage
