2. Public Sector- South Surrey
Recreation & Arts Center
Address: 14601 20 Ave, Surrey, BC V4A 9P5
According to the reading South Surrey Recreation
& Arts Center is apart of the public sector because it
“continually reinforces values and ideals of
establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to
the user” (Lunn, 2020, p.3).
SPSC 2210 Connection:
This is an example of recreation because services
“commensurate with individual and collective
interests and serve the need of the total community.
(Lunn, 2020, p.5.). The South Surrey Recreation &
Arts Center does this by providing a gymnasium
and fitness studios where all ages can participate.
Preschoolers, youth, and seniors are welcome as
there are facilities for people of all ages.

3. Public Sector- Bridgeview
Community Center

According to the reading Bridgeview Community
Centers are apart of the public sector because they
provide “fitness, sport, age-related programs, events,
arts, leadership, etc.” that are deemed a “public
good” (Lunn, 2020, p. 3).
SPSC 2210 Connection:
This is an example of recreation because “the
municipal level of government is the level in which
the recreation needs of the general public are
directly addressed through the offering of recreation
services” (Lunn, 2020, p. 4). Bridgeview
community center does this by providing people a
place where they can play a variety of sports. I have
played basketball here many times as they hold an
open gym a few times a week.

4. Public Sector- Chuck Bailey
Recreation Center

According to the reading Chuck Bailey Recreation
Center is apart of the public sector because it “provide
opportunities for recreation to disadvantaged clients: the
poor, persons with physical or mental disabilities, etc.”
(Lunn, 2020, p.3).
SPSC 2210 Connection:
This is an example of recreation because it “fundamental
human need for persons of all ages and is essential to a
person’s physical and social well-being and to overall
quality of life.” (Lunn, 2020, p.5). This is a place where
anyone can come in and be active and socialize with
others. I have seen people of all ages do this by joining
pick up games in basketball. Also people with
disabilities are also welcome as there are times dedicated
for them. The recreation center is also affordable for
those who cannot afford to spend a lot to get active and
interact with others

5. Commercial Sector- Delta
Golf Course
Address: 11550 Ladner Trunk Rd, Delta, BC V4K 3N3
According to the reading a commercial sector is a ”
Local commercial recreation is divided into three types
of services: outdoor commercial recreation, indoor
commercial recreation, and clubs.” (Lunn, 2020, pg.6).
Delta golf course fits into this description as it is an
outdoor service for a cost where the supplier makes a
profit (Lunn, 2020, p.6).
SPSC 2210 Connection:
This is a recreational example as it provides “leisure
services in the natural environment.” (Lunn, 2020, p.6).
People here can drop in anytime for a fee and enjoy the
outdoors where there are plenty of trees. Individuals
can choose to play on the course or head over to the
driving range to practice their drive.

6. Commercial Sector- Sweet
Serenity Yoga and Wellness

According to the reading a commercial sector is a ”
Local commercial recreation is divided into three types
of services: outdoor commercial recreation, indoor
commercial recreation, and clubs.” (Lunn, 2020, pg.6).
Sweet Serenity Yoga fits this description as it is outdoor
commercial recreation.
SPSC 2210 Connection:
Sweet Serenity Yoga is both a recreational and
coaching example. It is a coaching example because a
well experienced instructor is needed to teach
participants all the techniques. Sweet Serenity Yoga
requires a fee to be paid to take part in classes and does
provide a various amount of locations to train at (Lunn,
2020, pg. 4).

7. Commercial Sector- Club 16
Trevor Linden Fitness
Address: 10153 King George Blvd Unit 3400, Surrey,
BC V3T 2W1
According to the readings Club 16 is apart of the
commercial sector because it “is a major contributor to
the creation of capital, resources, and wealth within our
society.” (Lunn, 2020, pg.7). It is Canadian owned and
contributes to the economy by providing jobs and a
service for a fee.
SPSC 2210 Connection:
This is an example of recreation because “recreation
for which the consumer pays and for which the supplier
expects to make a profit” (MacLean, Peterson, &
Martin, 1985, p. 220, as cited in Karlis, 2011, p. 79).
Club 16 is also a coaching example as they offer
personal training for an extra fee to make more profit.
This can be considered as a “High level training,
specialized service” (Lunn, 2020, pg.6).

8. Volunteer Sector- Kids Play
Address: Surrey
According to the readings Kids Play is apart of the
Volunteer Sector because it “has the closest ties to local
communities, as organizations in this sector are
operated primarily by volunteers.” (Lunn, 2020, pg.8).
SPSC 2210 Connection:
Kids play is a coaching example as volunteers teach
kids a variety of skills in sport. This allows kids to stay
active and stay out of trouble, so they do not fall prey to
groups such as gangs. Kal Dosanjh is a well known
RCMP officer who helps in the program to educate
youth on how and why to stay out of things such as
drugs and gangs.

9. Volunteer Sector: Whalley
Little League

According to the reading Whalley Little League is a
volunteer sector because it relies on members, invests in
the future, and seek public sector assistance. (Lunn, 2020,
pg. 10).
SPSC 2210 Connection:
Whalley Little League is an example of coaching and
recreation. Coaching opportunities are offered by Whalley
Little League and requires you to teach the youth the
necessary physical and social skills required on a team. It
is a recreational example because it is a recreational
organization that has close ties to the community (Lunn,
2020, pg.9). Whalley Little League helps kids stay active
and become physically literate at a young age.

10. Volunteer Sector- Guildford
Athletic Club

According to the readings Guildford Athletic Club
is apart of the volunteer sector because it falls under
the examples of “athletics and sports organizations
include aquatics, athletic clubs, health clubs,
hockey, yachting, etc.” (Lunn, 2020, pg.9).
SPSC 2210 Connection:
Guildford Athletic Club is an example of coaching
and recreation. Kids are coached by volunteers in a
variety of sports that are offered acquiring a variety
of skills. Guildford Athletic Club is a recreation
example because it as a non-profitable sports and
athletics organization (Lunn, 2020, pg.9). Kids are
also taken to events such as Whitecaps games to
keep them engaged in sport.
