3. INTRODUCTION
• Any peripheral that accepts data from a computer
and prints, projects, or reproduces it is known as an
output device.
• The output may be audio, video, hard copy –
printed paper, etc.
• Output devices convert the computer data to human
understandable form.
• We give input to the computer using input devices
and the computer performs operations on the data
and displays the output to the user using the output
device.
4. MONITORS
• Monitors are the most popular output device used today for
producing soft copy output.
• A monitor is associated usually with a keyboard and together
they form a video display terminal.
• Two basic types of monitor-
1. Cathode Ray Tube(CRT)- The CRT monitor displays
images with color that are consistent and can be viewed with different
angles
2. Liquid Crystal Display(LCD)- The LCD monitor are thin and
they use little space. They are light in weight, consume less energy.
5. These are character printers that form character and all kinds of images bt
spraying small drops of ink on a paper.
LASERPRINTER
DOT-MATRIX
PRINTERS
● The printer is a device that print text document and images on a paper.
● It is a peripheral output device.Printers can be classified in two-group impact printers and non-impact
printers.
INKJET
It uses a beam of laser for the purpose of printing and it consist of a revolving
cylinder that is made up of photoconductive material.
These are character printer that print one character at a time. They form charcter and all
kind of images as a patterns of dots.
6. PLOTTERS
• Plotters are an ideal output device for architects, engineers and others who need to routinely generate
high-precision ,hard-copy,graphic output of widely varying sizes.
• There are two types of plotter-
In a drum-plotter,the paper on ehich the design is to be made is placed over a drum
that can rotate in both clockwise and anti-clockwise direction to produce vertical
motion.
DRUM-PLOTTER
A flatbed plotter plots design or graph on a sheet of paper spread and fixed over a
rectangular flatbed table.
FLATBED-PLOTTER
7. • Screen image projector is an output device used to project information from a computer on a large screen.
• Additionally,a fully fledgeg multimedia presentation with audio, video, image and animation can be prepared
and made by using this facility.
• Like monitors, screen image projectors provide a temporary, soft copy output.

8. VOICERESPONSESYSTEM
● Just as a speech recognition system aalows a user to talk to a computer,a voice
response system enables a computer to talk to a user.
● Voice response system are of two types-
1. VOICE REPRODUCTION SYSTEM-A voice reproduction system
produces audio output by selecting an appropriate audio output from a set
of prerecorded audio responses.
2. SPEECH SYNTHESIZER- A speech synthesizer converts text
information into spoken sentences..To produce speech , these device combine basic
sound unit called phonemes.
9. HEADPHONES
To hear the sound, use earbuds with your PC, laptop, or smartphone. It enables you to hear the sound without
causing any inconvenience to others. To translate electronic signals into sounds without causing
inconvenience to others. They can be wired or wireless and can be connected to computers, laptops, mobile
phones, etc. They are connected with the devices via Bluetooth.
Characteristics of Headphones:
• Stereo phones and headsets are other names for them.
• Earphones or earbuds are the names for the in-ear variants.
• The term headset denotes a combination of headphones and a microphone used for two-way
communication, such as using a telephone.
10. Sound cards are computer output devices that are inserted into the computer. A sound card, either external
or internal, is required to produce sound on any computer (built-in). An external sound card enables for
better overall sound generation and is required for wide and clear sound recording, as well as sound
without noise and interference.
Characteristics of Sound Card:
• To listen speakers or headphones, to play games, watch movies, listen to music, or use audio and video
conferencing, we use an internal sound card.
• Frequency is a sound card parameter that represents the number of signals the card processes per unit
of time. The frequency is expressed in hertz. The frequency of most sound cards is 96 or 192 kHz.
• Synthesizers and a variety of electronic musical instruments, such as drums and keyboards, can be
connected to your computer using a sound card with standard Musical Instrument Digital Interface
(MIDI) connections.
