structured or unstructured files

• Defining and handling data in a
conscious and responsible way
• Usually according to a Data
Management Plan:
• Try to define data before or in the first
phase of the project
• Identfy important technical, legal, sharing,
ethical, communication, preservation and
security issues
• Plan for solutions
• Implement and occasionally update plan

4. Why is RDM a good idea?
• To secure your own research
• Secure data accessibility and integrity
• Avoid consequences of theft, technical
breakdowns, human errors, etc.
• To preserve some data after project end
• To validate research (Code of Conduct)
• To allow for reuse for future research
• To securely share your data with
colleagues
• To ensure legal and ethics compliance

each dataset:
• Data set reference and name
• Data set description
• Standards and metadata
• Data sharing
• Archiving and preservation (including
storage and backup)

7. How to go about it?
• Find out if your project is part of the
data pilot
• If yes, read and follow instructions
• Include data management policy and
