LOGCAP III Weekly Delivery
From the Field
Keeping track of the dollars and cents is never an
easy task, but in coordination with several other
departments, FOB Bucca’s Finance and
Accounting Department has brought invoice aging
to a zero-day state on a number of occasions this
year. Consistently under five days, the zero-day
state indicates that invoices aren’t remaining in the
accounting system for very long and that KBR’s
subcontractors and suppliers are being paid as
quickly as possible.
But zero days takes more than simply paying a bill
quickly. It requires careful attention to detail by
every department involved in the procurement and
materials chains. Requisitions have to be
completed accurately, and the goods or services
need to be documented when they are received.
Invoices have to be matched to KBR’s documents
and approval for payment needs to be obtained.
When all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place and
there are no glitches, vendors are paid quickly.
And they are generally more willing to work closely
or provide expedited services knowing payment
won’t take an extraordinary amount of time.
Finance and Accounting Manager Kenneth
McHattie says he was able to achieve a zero-day
state by monitoring the existing processes and
procedures, identifying the bottlenecks and then
developing plans to improve those shortcomings.
And it’s paying off ...both for KBR as well as our
vendors.

Andrea Johnson has received many accolades,
letters of recommendation and coins during her
past tenure as MWR technician at FOB Warhorse.
A particularly nice honor was the “Task Force Iron
Coin for Excellence”, presented by Major General
Mark Hertling.
One of her co-workers said this then: “Andrea
Johnson is truly loved by all who meet her. She
works in the MWR at the Faulkenburg Theater on
C3 Warhorse, which is where she was injured
when it took a direct hit. That hasn’t stopped her
though; whenever you see her she has a big smile
on her face. She goes the extra mile in all she
does. She thinks of every detail, from decorating
for special events, to making sure there are plenty
of snacks for movie night. She has the biggest
heart for everyone and has developed a wonderful
rapport with the Customer. Andrea is one of a kind
and a very special person!”
Andrea has been with KBR since June 2007, and
has two children, who work or have worked for
KBR. MG Hertling, on behalf of the troops deploy-
ed at FOB Warhorse, showed his appreciation by
presenting her with their unit coin. MG Hertling
thanked her for the courage it took to return to Iraq
and continue to serve the wonderful men and
women in uniform. Her courage and bravery have
been an example to all. Soon, she will have an
opportunity to share her magic with many others,
because she recently transferred to Camp
Speicher.
