THE 4.0 REVOLUTION
IN MOTION
DO YOU SPEAK 4.0?
Presumably yes, perhaps more or less fluently. Digital
technology has flooded all sectors of the manufacturing
industry, from supply upstream to distribution downstream,
flowing through the heart of the production chain. The
whole phenomenon is called «Industry 4.0» with reference
to the 4th
Industrial Revolution (preceded by steam engines,
electric motors and computers).
The wave of Industry 4.0 is just beginning, but it is gaining
momentum faster than the digital boom of the 80s.
DO SME’S NEED 4.0?
Over the next few years, a growing number of small and
medium-sized businesses will adopt Industry 4.0, thus
following the example of large manufacturers worldwide.
With time-savings and performance gains, this new type
of plant will yield improved quantitative and qualitative
results.
MEET KEOPS
FOUNDED IN 1982 KEOPS IS AN INTEGRA-
TOR OF ADVANCED MANUFACTURING
SYSTEMS. IT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST
CANADIAN COMPANIES TO OFFER
MANUFACTURERS DIGITAL SOLUTIONS
TO OPTIMIZE THEIR SUPPLY CHAIN
FROM BEGINNING TO END, AND ENSURE
OPTIMAL VISIBILITY AND USE OF THE
COMPANY’S RESOURCES (ASSETS).
PRESENT ON SEVERAL CONTINENTS
KEOPS PROMOTES MANUFACTURING
INTELLIGENCE AND ITS TRACK RECORD
REFLECTS ITS ACHIEVEMENTS IN DIVERSE
FIELDS RANGING FROM THE AGRI-FOOD
INDUSTRY TO TRANSPORT AND ALUMINUM.
THE KEOPS 4.0 SOLUTIONS
KEOPS Technologies specializes in applying digital
technologies to industry to help transform processes,
assets and people. By integrating the KEOPS Advanced
Manufacturing Solution, expect to:
a) Maximize the productivity of your manufacturing
company operations from beginning to end including
these aspects: product design, product quality, data
analysis, the production chain processes and
distribution (transport, logistics);
b) Transition from undifferentiated to customized
mass production by reducing the time-to-market;
c) Directly integrate the output of external supply
chains, that connects suppliers with customers;
d) Gather and analyze performance data and indicators
in order to increase productivity, quality and profits;
WHY INDUSTRY 4.0?
To provide the right information at the right time within
the organisation and to your partners.
This information will allow better supply, optimisation
of resources and assets, increased productivity, reduced
waste, and increased flexibility and planning.
With the KEOPS 4.0 solution, all the operations of
the assembly line become visible in real time, mobile,
measurable and modifiable. Possible errors can
immediately be identified, and even avoided.
Industry 4.0 allows considerable reduction and/or
compensation for waste downtime, breakdowns, unplanned
absences, undelivered or late-delivered orders, defective,
lost or forgotten products and non-compliance with
established quality and regulatory standards.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
In order to digitize a plant and optimize it to level 4.0,
KEOPS analyses over 30 factors, such as the nature of the
product, its quality, data collection of the production lines
(Big Data), the production itself and the entire distribution
process (packaging and delivery). All items are attributed
with an IP tag and networked together (Internet of Things).
The weakest links are identified and rectified.
An intervention map is compiled, allowing KEOPS to
proceed with implementation of the information system
in real time. Equipped with a dashboard and various alerts,
managers may control everything both in the factory and
remotely from their smart phone.
Once embedded in this digital net, communications within
the plant become more fluid. Paper disappears, exchanges
speed up, painful and repetitive tasks are automated.
“Adaptive mobility” becomes the norm.
04 / THE 4.0 REVOLUTION IN MOTION
TAKE UP KEOPS 4.0
The Internet of things, data acquisition, digital cloud
technology and the processing of large and complex
data volumes allow you, the manufacturer, to catch the
wave of the future and create an environment oriented
towards INNOVATION with cost-effective solutions.
Accordingly, the optimisation of manufacturing operations
is accessible to all budgets. Each stage of deployment
shows immediate benefits and provides rapid return
on investment; usually in less than a year. Moreover,
these activities may be partially financed by the multiple
support programs geared to promoting modernisation.
IS IT FOR ME?
Example from the food business – one of KEOPS’s areas
of excellence
Food processing is the largest manufacturing sector in
North America in terms of employment and GDP, but few
people know that many large food processing plants are
as highly digitized as the automotive sector.
Manage the complexity of manufacturing and guarantee
product quality
In the food sector, quality control is an absolute necessity.
Add to this challenge the complex management of manu-
facturing, human resources, equipment, the product and
its traceability, packaging, inventory and transportation -
to name just a few.
Moreover, in this type of plant, each product has multiple
versions, multiple sizes, expiration dates, and specific
regulations. What if all this data could be gathered and
analysed in real time to immediately identify the errors,
among other things: Does the yogurt recipe meet for colour,
taste and texture standards? Does the recipe use the raw
material available in an optimal manner, what the plant
has in stock or on the lowest procurement cost?
For over 30 years, KEOPS has acquired unparallelled
experience in the area of food processing around the world.
Manage logistics, inventory and mobility
Consider this example of external management of a 4.0
business specializing in industrial gas sales with worldwide
distribution. Each cylinder alone is worth $ 1000.00
excluding the gas.
Optimize your operations while ensuring customer
satisfaction
The challenge is to optimize a stock of one million gas
cylinders so as to reduce inventory while serving customers
so that they are never without gas.
The KEOPS solution adjusts levels of in-stock cylinders to
correspond with individualized customer consumption
patterns to ensure that the latter is automatically supplied
before running out of gas.
To do this, KEOPS produced durable, weather-resistant,
long-range RFID tags, then developed corresponding
cylinder management program to facilitate optimized
inventory management.
KEOPS later drew on that experience for the benefit of
clients in the brewing sector by providing them with a
similar tracking solution for beer kegs.
