1. Peer-assessed final project
1 What are the arguments of the DOF article?
High consumption of sugar-added beverages contributes to an obesity problem
which is very prevalent in México. Mexico’s Congress proposes an initiative for
taxing flavored beverages that contain added sugars, in an effort to reduce the
incidence of obesity.
2 Which consistencies or inconsistencies did you find in the document?
I found that the proposal does not explain in detail how taxing 1 peso per liter will
affect consumer’s behavior, or any substantial proof that this is the appropriate
solution.
3 Which biases or errors did you find in the arguments (bad arguments, fallacies,
omissions, false inferences and deceptive statistics)?
Maybe sugar-added drinks are just a part of the problem, but not as urgent as the
arguments present in the document.
4 Can conclusions be drawn from the arguments?
Yes they can, sugar-added beverages may be a part of the obesity problem in
México, and they need to be put under some spotlight.
5 Is the person’s point of view derived from his or her research?
2. It seems likely.
6 How are you ordering your own arguments (to avoid being unfocused)?
I ask if do I have the necessary information, do I sense any conflict in the
arguments provided
