  1. 1. SEMINAR
  2. 2. COMPUTER MEADIATED COMMUNICATION COMPUTER SIMULATION Submitted by Lekshmi.s Roll no:22
  3. 3. COMPUTER MEADIATED COMMUNICATION (CMC) DEFINITIONS  CMC is defined as any human communication that occurs through the use of two or more electronic devices.  CMC is any form of communication between two or more individual people who interact or influence each other via electronic devices through the internet or a network connection using software.
  4. 4.  CMC has also been defined as any communication patterns mediated through the computer. CMC does not include the methods by which two computers communicate, but rather how people communicate via computers,
  5. 5. Examples of CMC E –mail Instant messaging Text messaging Online shopping Video conferencing Distance learning
  6. 6. Classification Of Communication 1. SYNCHRONOUS COMMUNICATION 2. ASYCHRONOUS COMMUNICATION SYNCHRONOUS CMC • It refers to communication which occurs in real time. • Communication in one time • eg: Internet relay chat [IRC] [Live chat] • Video conferencing
  7. 7. ASYCHRONOUS CMC • It refers to communication that takes place when the parties engaged are not communicating unison. • Communication is not happen in one time • Eg: text messages ,e-mail
  8. 8. CMC IN EDUCATION • CMC promotes self discipline , responsibility in students • CMC helps teacher or tutor facilitation. • CMC disregards time and place dependance compared to time and place. • Communication can happen anytime and anywhere. • It promoting collaboratively learning. • Informing large group of people about the same thing. • Previous conference can be kept for future reference.
  9. 9. • Students who are silent in face to face communication • CMC discussion and helps to increase their participation.
  10. 10. Advantages Of CMC • People can exchange, store, edit, broadcast and copy any written document. • Sends data and msgs easily at lowest • Develop social influence among communicators. • CMC helps tutor facilitation or teachers • CMC breakdown geographic barriers • CMC helps to increase students participation
  11. 11. Disadvantages Of CMC • More time consuming • The issue of confidentially and trust • It is not practical for all educational purposes • Lack of true human contact • lack of nonverbal cues • Lack of socio emotional
  12. 12. SIMULATION • The word of simulation means to imitate . • It was first applied in the classroom in 1968 in England. • The simulation technique was first used in teacher training and social science • In 1970 this technique was spread to other sujects mainly in teaching of science. Softwares are ,  Monte calo simulation, Stochastic modelling, Multimethod modeling
  13. 13. Computer Simulation • A computer simulation is a computer programme that attempts to abstract model of a particular system. • Computer simulations are computer generated dynamic models that present theoretical or simplified models of a real world components , phenomena or process. They can include animations ,visualizations and interactive laboratory experiences.
  14. 14. • Computer simulations uses mathematical modelling, physics, astrophysics, chemistry, biology, psychology ,socialscience etc
  15. 15. Features of computer simulation • There is computer model of a real situation that contains information on how the situation behaves. • A computer simulation is the usage of a computer for the imitation of a real world process. • Uses graphical screens, 3D graphics , computers to provide real time experience. • Can assist in the design ,creation, and evaluation of complexsystems.
  16. 16. • A simulation requires a model or a mathematical description of the real system. • Designed to predict the behaviour of ,or the outcome of, a real world or physical system. • Computer simulation find usage in the study of dynamic in an environment that may be difficult or is dangerous to implement in real life.
  17. 17. Uses • Extensively used for educational purposes • Training of civilian and military personnel for dangerous equipments. This will be safe mode. • Flight simulators to train pilots. • Designing chemical processing plants • Designing of robots • Modeling car crashes for safety mechanism in new vehicle models.
  18. 18. MERITS OF COMPUTER SIMULATION • Controllable • Computer simulation are interactive , so the learners are active . So they are highly motivating • Computer simulations are cheaper than actual experiments in many cases. • In scientific fields • It can be reworked • Preparations of laboratory activities • Easier for eduvcators and learners
  19. 19. • It can avoid danger and loss of life • Critical situations can be investigated without risk. • Evaluate impact of changes in policy prior to implementation. • Gain grater understanding of a process • Able to explore “what if ” …. Questions. •
