Had to close it because of English and Spanish claims on the islands

2nd voyage
When native people stole from him he would capture a chief or other important person, then he would announce that the captive would not be freed until the thief returned the stolen items…tried it in Hawaii…they stole some tools and a canoe…tried to take an old chief hostage..angry mob attacked cook and his men…cook’s men escaped, but he didn’t. Beat him to death with their war clubs
