PiD Webinar #4
Research Activity iD (RaiD) is a new addition to the world of research PIDs and is an Id for Research Activities, and places the project in the centre of the data management life cycle.
This webinar covers: RAiD PID, issues surrounding Research Data Management planning and processes.
Recordings, slides, transcripts, links for all webinars are at:

4. DLCF Enabling technologies
Cloud based connectors and Identifiers for research data, tools, storage and
outputs.
• Research Activity Identifier (RAiD)
• Group ID and Group Management service (G.iD)
• Federated Access via AAF
• Provisioning of storage and tools via AARNET and NECTAR
• Metadata store and APIs to access the Activity and Groups services
5. Why PID’s?
Benefits:
• Standardization of metadata
• Mechanism for creating a persistent chain of provenance
• Supports F.A.I.R Principles of making research data Findable, Accessible,
Interoperable, and Re-usable: improves discovery and access, and ensuring that
output is attributable and reportable
• Lightweight, flexible tool
• Facilitates rich data linkage
Persistent Identifiers (PID’s) are a simple tool for digital research data
management and the evolving data management ecosystem.
6. RAiD: Research Activity Identifier
A PID for Projects
• Handle minted via ANDS
• RAiD Metadata Manifest(DMR)
• Contains PIDs related to the project
• Doi, Orcid, RAiDS, GiDs, Tool and Service ID’s

12. Benefits of RAiD integration
Institutions
• Improved visibility of research activity components: people, tools,
processes, storage and outputs
• Audit trail for research processes
• Visibility of collaborations across institutions
Infrastructure
• Metrics for infrastructure use and connections
• Automate storage provisioning
• Automate allocations (storage and compute)
• Access and authorisation
