1902: Alfred Erickson forms his own advertising agency in New York City.
1912: Harrison King McCann, along with four partners, launches H.K. McCann Co, and
introduces the credo "Truth Well Told".
1930: McCann and Erickson merge companies..
1957: McCann became the first U.S. advertising agency to bill $100 million in TV and radio sales.
1960: The company is organized into four independent operating units reporting into McCann
Erickson, Inc. (later to become the Interpublic Group in 1961). Office opens in Japan.

1964: The Spanish government of Francisco Franco hires the agency to improve its image in the
United States.
1973: McCann International and McCann US reunite into the single agency McCann Erickson
Worldwide..
•1997: McCann World group formed, includes: McCann Erickson Worldwide, Universal McCann and
what would become MRM//McCann, Momentum, McCann Healthcare Worldwide, Weber Shand
wick and Future Brand.
•1998, McCann Erickson purchases Fitzgerald is & Company in Atlanta, and retains the Fitzgerald &
Company moniker
•2000: Coca-Cola returned as a customer with a new "groundbreaking contract, making McCann a
marketing partner".

•2012: Harris Diamond, previously CEO of Weber Shandwick and CEO of Interpublic Groups’
Constituency Management Group, joins McCann Worldgroup as its new Chairman and CEO.
•2013: General Motors’ worldwide Chevrolet account is consolidated with the agency in
Commonwealth//McCann.
•2014: United//McCann is established to handle the worldwide Microsoft account.
•2017: Adweek names McCann "Agency of the Year".
•2018: Global Effie Effectiveness Index names McCann Most Effective Agency Network, and
MRM//McCann is named Ad Ages' "2018 Business-to-Business Agency of the Year".

McCann Erickson - or just plain McCann as it is increasingly better-known - still claims to be the
biggest worldwide agency network by global footprint. The main agency specializes in traditional
advertising, but it also offers a broad range of other marketing services under the banner of
the McCann Worldgroup, which coordinates input from several other Interpublic-owned agencies
agencies including Momentum, MRM, Futurebrand and Weber Shandwick.
Despite its worldwide presence, it has come under intense pressure from more nimble
competitors in several key markets, and has had to fight hard to keep hold of key clients like
Verizon, Microsoft and General Motors. A change of CEO at the end of 2012 restored McCann's
poise and performance since then has been generally solid. McCann was Adweek's Global Agency
Agency of the Year in 2019, for the first time in two decades.

McCann Worldgroup Mumbai was named as "2018 India Agency of the Year" by Campaign Brief
Asia. The publication, which cited the agency's "dominant performance at award shows," also
ranked it No. 1 in its list of "India's Hottest Agencies" and placed its creative leaders in the first
four positions in its ranking of "India's Hottest Creatives."

In recent years McCann has won several award few of them are :
The Advertising Club (TAC) India hosted the 18th edition of the Effie Awards India 2018,
in Mumbai and McCann was among the agencies who received the awards.
One97 Communication was adjudged as the Effie Client of the Year, while McCann Worldgroup
India, was named Effie India Agency of the Year. The coveted Grand Effie was won by Ogilvy &
Mather Group, India.

With 3 awards including 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 special award for Research Excellence, McCann
India has become the most awarded agency across Asia at the recently concluded WARC Prize
for Asia Strategy that celebrates the best strategic thinking in marketing across the continent.
McCann India’s 3 wins came for ‘Coke2Home’ for Coca-Cola India (1 Gold, 1 special award for
Research Excellence) and 1 Silver for ‘Overcoming India’s Toilet Divide’ for Reckitt-Benckiser’s
Harpic. Besides McCann, other winning Indian agencies include Leo Burnett, Cheil, FCB India and
Ogilvy.
