  5. 5. 5 Introduction Introduction Lack or shortage of budget for advertisement is one of the problems which is experienced by owners of small businesses and people who decide to start their own busi- ness – In fact, this is a problem that is peculiar to entre- preneurship. These people need tools to introduce their businesses, brands products and services in any possible way. Along with conventional marketing methods, there are many modern tools and resources to be utilized by this group of people. This book presents such free or very cheap methods for introducing and advertising small businesses. This book is a part of a series called “Smart Business” in which we attempt to observe everything in a smart manner, i.d. we view the present standards from different perspec- tives and find some ways to help out our own business ac- cording to our conditions. In each book [of this series], we may refer to certain con- cepts and then, these concepts are thoroughly discussed in a separate book. Therefore, the methods introduced in this book may have been dispersedly mentioned in other book of Smart Business Series, but they are discussed in great detail here.
  6. 6. No/Low Budget Advertisement 6 Knowledge More Important Than Budget Lacking any capital or being short in capital is the prob- lem of most people who want to start a business. In such con- ditions, several plans, including advertisement are affected. However, if you look at it smartly, having a “business plan” matters most and it comes first before the issue with capital. You get to know the roadmap by writing a business plan: ƒ Understanding the target market and the future problems; ƒ Understanding the resources in the geographical area where you run your operation; ƒ Knowing the capabilities of your business; ƒ Knowing your capabilities, strengths and weakness and that of those who work with you; ƒ Knowing the tools which can take you to your business goals using the least amount of budget .
  7. 7. Types of No/Low Budget Methods in Introducing a Business The methods I discuss here are simple yet easy to execute. They are no/low budget tools for introducing a business and you can use them to expand your business. People who consider it smarter and more serious will ex- perience significant progress in their businesses. It must be noted that all the methods introduced here are taken from personal experience of the author, who has ef- fectively applied them in his businesses by taking a creative and different perspective toward the present methods and standards.
  8. 8. No/Low Budget Advertisement 8 A) Talking About Your Business The first and the simplest way you can use to introduce your business is to talk about your business everywhere you go. Whether rich or low-income, wheth- er in possession of enough budget for your advertisement or not, you should talk about your business everywhere. Have a conversation about your business in work sessions, friendly meetings, so- cial media and any other possible place. Some people are even unable to ex- plain what they are doing. I have online groups to discuss business ideas with my trainees. The first thing I asked them is to explain in what guild they are working. It will amaze you to learn that less than 15% of members of these groups with hun- dreds and thousands of members care about such business rules and talk about their business. It is not enough to be aware of a subject in your mind. You need to to introduce it to others for them to realize what kind of business you have.
  9. 9. 9 Talking About Your Business Prepare some short sentences, so by using them, you can present the qualities of your business in a minute or within a short time wherever you are. Apply the one-minute presenta- tion principle. Talk well in that one minute and then turn it into a conversation. You can mention more details during the chats. How much budget does it need? Zero!
  10. 10. No/Low Budget Advertisement 10 Have a smart and goal-oriented perspective toward the oppor- tunities you get during the day to introduce your business and to chat with others about it. I have been following this principle from 30 years ago when I wasn’t as ex- perienced as I am now, and I have always got the desirable results. All my business- es have been proceeded with not low but no budget and capital at all. Therefore, I have always been forced to have a smart perspective toward everything. Talking about my business is one of the things I have always done; to move my business forward and using ongoing talks and tasks related to my work, I would introduce myself even in places such as different fairs and ministries, which seemed irrele- vant places to that work.
  11. 11. 11 Talking About Your Business In order to talk about business, start with the warm market or close circle of people around you. Many people ignore the warm market. A warm market includes your relatives, acquaintances, and close friends. When I say you should talk about your business “everywhere”, I refer to the warm market as well. The circle of relatives and friends includes the first peo- ple who can talk about your business in different places.
  12. 12. No/Low Budget Advertisement 12 You should bring up your business to people close to you as much as you can. Follow the principle of one-minute pre- sentation. Here, the difference is that relatives and acquaintances may spend more time listening to you; they may also ask more questions and you may provide more explanations. Some people say that relatives would pry into their work. This is a wrong belief. If relatives are not supposed to find out [about your business], then who is going to find out about it? The important thing is to inform peo- ple about your business everywhere, even if you know some people aren’t good ad- vertisers for your work or even if they backtalk about you. Family and acquaintances can do a sort of word of mouth marketing for you.
  13. 13. 13 Talking About Your Business In addition to inform your relatives and friends about starting your business, you should constantly update them about each progress you make in your business. It’s be- cause they don’t believe you in the begin- ning, and if you want them to believe you and consequently, to take you seriously, you need to let them know about workload. By making available continuous infor- mation about your progress to your rel- atives, you build a trust for yourself. With that, theywill start talking about you and in- troduce or refer your business everywhere they go. Before going through the process of building trust, they may never mention you anywhere or they may limit it to or- dinary compliments about you and avoid becoming a mediator to create a work re- lationship between you and others because they are yet to build trust in your business yet. However, you will be recognized as a professional by your relatives if notifying happens constantly and continuously. Talk about your new business so everyone gets to know it.
  14. 14. No/Low Budget Advertisement 14 B) Web Design 1) 1) Nowadays, with a very low budget, you can design a website for the business you are running. You require a website to start your online activity. Design a website for your business even if your business is just one coffee or ice cream shop. 2) 2) Don’t forget that we are talking about No/Low Bud- get Advertisement. So, use Google to find different free web providers. 3) 3) In web design, the important point is to link the website with all of your social media accounts and the content of the website must be linkable to your social media so it could be shared in there as well and readers can share the content in their social media accounts if they decide to do so. 4) 4) Publish all your business plans such as running a con- test on your website and share them in your social media as well. If your goal is to introduce the website, you need to put the content on the website and share its link on social media so there will be more viewers for your website.
  15. 15. 15 Online Business Directory C) Online Business Directory There are one or several online busi- ness directories in every country. You can google the phrase ‘online business directo- ry’ plus the name of the country you want and you will have access to online business directories of that country. For example, there is the Yellow Pages in North America. While googling, you will see items such as the top 100 websites of online directo- ries. Use Google and identify online business directories in your tar- get market and introduce your business in those directories. Beside the local directories of your target market, make effort to put google business directories and some other major ones on your list. You should understand that 99% of business directories are free. Register the features of your business in all of these directories patiently and care- fully. Then, the name of your business will be seen in Google search results.
  16. 16. No/Low Budget Advertisement 16 Applicable formula: enter the address of each of these directories in an Excel file. In that file, you should register the name and internet address of the directory with the division under which you saved your information. If the directory required your username and password, you should enter them in the Excel file as well. You need to update your page in online directories periodically. Some of these directories have certain rules; for exam- ple, they may delete your information af- ter a specific time, such as a year. So, you should check your account and update it. Some of such online directories allow you to have side activities such as adding special sales offers and putting the cat- alog in the page. Use these resources in maximum capacity. It will help you to get more views in Google search. You don’t need to pay anything to use these resources. However you can choose to do it by paying a small amount of mon- ey, making it a low budget advertisements. However, you should modify your strate- gy based on the number of views you get and the effect they have on your business so you know if it’s worth paying any cost.
  17. 17. 17 Classified Sites D) Classified Sites 1) 1) Nowadays, there are websites for ad posting all over the world. The famous American example is Craigslist and another one is Kijiji. There is no classified site that can cover the entire world. Even a website with international services has localized versions in every region. In addition, famous classified sites in a region are not comparable with internationally famous websites. Generally, people’s priority is to use local websites. 2) 2) Find online classified sites. 99% of such sites are free. Some of them may have considered a fee for putting ads in some sections. Anyway, you can have free ads in many sections and it means no/ low budget advertisement. In this case, you can decide to put ads with fee, depending on your budget for advertisement and considering the features of the website such as num- ber of users and its domain of effect.
  18. 18. No/Low Budget Advertisement 18 E) Virtual Forums 1) 1) Forums used to be very popular and there was a lot of business planning going on in them. You could talk about different topics by creating an account in a forum. You can still use these resources and introduce your business and its features in a forum. 2) 2) Just like the case with business directories, you should have a comprehensive and careful evalua- tion and choose the most famous and popular fo- rums. You can then spend more time on them. In any case, even platforms with few viewers will be useful in introducing your business. Many forums are being trans- ferred to social media but they still can be used as a no-budget advertisement tool.
  19. 19. 19 Weblog F) Weblog 1) 1) Weblog has always been popular. Even today, it is still an important tool for informing people. There are local weblog services in every country. Using them, you can have your personal weblog and talk about your business. 2) 2) Open a page in the websites of the most visited service providers so it gets more views. In addition, you can work with bloggers. Ask famous bloggers who have the most visited blog pages to inform others about your business. Find the most visited websites, directories and forums in your guild and take an active part in them. 3) 3) You can check Alexa website to find the websites of the most visited weblog service providers; select your country and then in just a few seconds, you will be able to see the names of the top 100 web- sites. Identify the most visited service providers in your country in the list and open a page on their websites.
  20. 20. No/Low Budget Advertisement 20 Write detailed contents in a weblog and link the keywords of your texts to your website or Instagram page. Therefore, the weblog is viewed and at the same time, you refer the readers to your website for ref- erence. 4) 4) It takes considerable amount of time to make no- ticeable progress in directory websites, classified sites, forums and blogs, so you must be patient and spend time on it. The major advantage of all these tools for introducing a business is that they are free (or very low-cost).
  21. 21. 21 Social Media G) Social Media Nowadays, social media are a part of people’s everyday life. They are free to use and their policy is to increase users. The more users they get, the more mon- ey they make through other methods. Use social media for advertisement as much as possible. Identify the major social media in your target market. You have already identi- fied your target market in “business plan” and designed a “marketing plan”. Open a page in all major social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pin- terest, Instagram, etc.
  22. 22. No/Low Budget Advertisement 22 Use your social media page for busi- ness; otherwise, the audience won’t take it seriously and consider it as a side job. Therefore, you won’t be able to expand it. Try and create a serious and professional face and structure of your business in social me- dia so others take you seriously as well. Open a page foryour business on social media. Then repost the topics you had in blogs, sites, forums and so on so forth. The content you use is of critical im- portance and you must pay special atten- tion to it. Have an active role in social media in any way possible. Keep your account ac- tive.
  23. 23. 23 Social Media Follow the 20-80 Principle. ƒ Don’t spend more than 20% of your ad- vertisement on introducing yourself di- rectly, and give an indirect introduction in 80% of the advertisement. ƒ Talk about yourself 20% of the time and talk about the topics related and close to you at 80% of the time. Share contents related or close to the topics of your business. You don’t have to advertise directly. If you keep advertising your business, you will lose followers and there will be only some users left who superficially like posts without following the content.
  24. 24. No/Low Budget Advertisement 24 There are several tools in social media and almost all of them are free. Identify these tools and apply them. Get to knowthese tools using manuals or YouTube and check how you can use them in various social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest. If you learn more, it will help you to manage your business user page more professionally and get useful feedbacks. In the beginning, it takes a long time to manage social media, and after that, you need to share the contents based on the process you have learned. Learn how to analyze feed- backs. There are numerous analysis tools, such as the geographical location of your audiences and the amount of time they have spent on viewing your contents. The results you obtain will give you ideas about the content that has been more popular and appealing.
  25. 25. 25 Social Media Provide new and diverse con- tent but when you get a posi- tive feedback from a content, you should definitely continue offering the content while im- proving it by various methods. You can understand it if you an- alyze your audience’s behavior. Social media allow you to repost your own provided content in others’ pages. Some have made their pages public and you can share your content in there. Join the groups which are active in your work context. These groups allowyou to re- post the provided contents. It takes months to find and join these groups. For example, Facebook doesn’t allow you to join more than a given number of groups per day, or it stops you from reposting the contents of your page after you exceed a certain limit.
  26. 26. No/Low Budget Advertisement 26 Have in mind the tools of reposting content in pages and groups of other people as well. It is a simple thing to do. For example, when you open a Facebook page, there is search bar on the top of the page. Let’s assume your business is about how to run a restaurant. You enter a word depending on the geographical loca- tion of the target market. When you are searching, Facebook may suggest you some words more appealing than those you have in mind. On the top of the page, there are some categories as well such as all, post, people, photo, page, group, event, app, etc. We care more for page and group. You can click on group and join any group that tickles your fancy or close to your business. For example, there is a group with 34 thousand members. First, you enter the group to see in which context they are active. There are descriptions for each group which explain their type of activity. You can join that group if necessary.
  27. 27. 27 Social Media The other section is pages. You should go to the pages and see if they allow you to share your contents there. On the bot- tom of the page, there are signs which show whether it is possible to share your content or not. If you are allowed to share, then you can share your contents. To share contents in the future, bookmark a page or save its information on the Excel file about which we have previously discussed. As mentioned before, there is a lim- itation for activities in each social media. For example, you can’t share more than a given number of posts per day in others’ pages on Facebook. When reaching the limit, you should continue the work on the next day. Such a process requires lots of patience and you can’t do it in one day or hurriedly. You should make it a continuous activity. Share the contents which connect your audience to your business. You will gain nothing if you share in others’ pages the interesting contents irrelevant to your business with no link to your page.
  28. 28. No/Low Budget Advertisement 28 H) Contest 1) 1) I have frequently used contests in different programs. I advise you to research it and get some ideas on how to start an online contest for your business. You can start a contest in social media, weblogs and forums as well. Assign prizes for the contests in accordance with the size of your business. 2) 2) Most of the time, prizes can be products and services of your own business so you don’t have to pay any cost. Don’t forget that here, we are discussing no/ low budget advertisement and with the least costs, you should be able to persuade people to follow you on social media and use your products and services.
  29. 29. 29 Content Providing I) Content Providing 1) 1) In the present world, content has become of great importance. In various websites and social media, you should provide all different types of contents related to your work. 2) 2) Provide a sort of content which is appealing for the public and especially for your target market. For example, if you are working in line of repair- ing computer servers, you have specific audience and your contents must be in accordance with the needs of your specific audience. 3) 3) Look for ways to provide content at low cost. You can take high-quality pictures and videos using your phone and share it on all of your social media pages.
  30. 30. No/Low Budget Advertisement 30 4) 4) Provide textual or visual (such as images and vid- eos) contents about different topics based on the taste of your audience and your business. The au- dience’s taste matters more because they are going to view your contents and follow you. If the content you provide is not appealing to your audience, you should start to worry because they won’t follow you. Correspondingly, when you share some ordinary contents reposted by others, you should begin to worry as well. 5) 5) Provide contents which will be reposted by others. Using modern tools and simple methods, you can provide contents that will be of benefits to your audience. 6) 6) Don’t share pointless and irrelevant contents from various sources. Remember that with availability of smartphones, your audiences have access to all types of content as much as you do. Therefore, it is pointless to share such content.
  31. 31. 31 Content Providing 7) 7) Provide high-quality and fresh content. Reposting the contents of oth- ers will not bring in new view- ers for you because everybody has access to the content pro- vided by high traffic websites and those contents have al- ready been reposted.
  32. 32. No/Low Budget Advertisement 32 J) Attending Events 1) 1) Track down what events are being held all over the country related to your business and in the realm of your target market, and attend those events. 2) 2) Visiting events costs nothing for you and only some of them require a very small entering fee but events are one of the best places for advertising and introducing your business. 3) 3) Check whether the visitors, exhibitors, or organiz- ers of an event are a part of your target market. It’s possible for all these three groups to be a part of your target market. Don’t spend time on any kind of event. Choose one which gives you access to your target market.
  33. 33. 33 Attending Events 4) 4) Choose the events with small entering fees and introduce yourself to your customers who are the exhibitors, visitors, or organizers of the event. Anyway, attending events is a low or even no budget method. 5) 5) Consider attending events as a weekly and monthly market- ing tool, and after starting your business and getting involved in social media, take it as a per- manent task.
  34. 34. No/Low Budget Advertisement 34 6) 6) You can provide your own ex- clusive content by attending events. Take pictures and videos by your phone and post them on your website and social media pages. While the news related to the fairs will get published at some point, nobody has provided your pictures and videos except you. As simple as that, you can provide your exclusive contents and use the event professionally as a no/low budget tool for providing content and introducing your business.
  35. 35. 35 Attending Work Events K) Attending Work Events Visiting and meeting a group of people from the same trade guild is a part of events. This section or so-called ‘net- working’ is a very effective method. In most of the events related to networks of people, there is a chance for you to talk to people about your business, introduce and advertise it, hand out your visiting card and perform the one-minute presentation. I have an independent book on how to attend events and how to use them as a marketing tool and in that book, I have provided comprehensive and full explanations about this topic.
  36. 36. No/Low Budget Advertisement 36 L) Attending Cultural and Community Centers There are cultural centers all over the world. Pay a visit to these places regular- ly. You don’t need to pay to do so. Check what kind of people you can work with there and where you can put your flyers and visiting cards. Identify where people gather and introduce yourself through a one-minute presentation. You can hand out your flyers, brochures and visiting card in cultural centers. In Canada, there are places called ‘wel- come center’ for people who have recent- ly entered the country. An example is Iranian Community Center. These places can be a spot for you to introduce your business. In other countries, some centers such as municipalities, are places with heavy traffic and there is no cost for visiting them. Check if there is a space for you to introduce your business there in terms of your trade guild.
  37. 37. 37 Attending Cultural and Community Centers Many years ago, I remember that there were lots of people standing in the street leading to the Company Registration Of- fice and they would hand out their visit- ing cards to the passengers asking them to refer to them if they intended to regis- ter a company. What kind of business has a lower cost than this one does?! Even if you have hired people to do this for you, it is still considered as a low budget adver- tisement. You get the most feedbacks by spending some low budget because the most relevant target market is accessible in such places. Various events are held in the afore- mentioned centers. Attend these events after you evaluate the attendants of these events and your target market. You should keep trying to choose a smart method that requires no budget.
  38. 38. No/Low Budget Advertisement 38 M) Coopering with Charity Organizations 1) 1) Work with charity organizations as a volunteer. In this case, you are doing something good for improving the conditions in your society, and at the same time, you see various people and you can introduce your business to them using a one- minute presentation. Not only a no-budget meth- od for marketing, introducing and advertising your business, working with charity organiza- tions is also a social capital for you and it increases your cred- ibility and your interpersonal relationships. 2) 2) By volunteering, by giving charity or by becoming a member in a charity group or social organization, you get access to people, and it is something which wasn’t easily hitherto possible for you. Therefore you can use the avenue to market your brand and business. Through that you will be able to get more leads, link with prospective clients and eventually close more sales
  39. 39. 39 Coopering with Charity Organizations 3) 3) In NorthAmerica, people consider charityworks as a part of their lives. For students, it is a part of their homework and a necessary level for their socializ- ing without which they are unable to go through developmental stages. However, you can use this method as an ingenious, useful and low-budget way to do pro bono works and make progress in your business.
  40. 40. No/Low Budget Advertisement 40 N) Unions and Associations of the Target Market 1) 1) Due to the great number of members and as places for the membership of the business- es working in a certain guild, unions, associations, or other similar entities can be a place for your introduction and ad- vertisement. 2) 2) If you have targeted a certain group of custom- ers in your target market and such customers are members in the aforementioned entities, you can get into business with these entities, and depend- ing on the type of products or services you provide, you can offer special discounts to the members or you can give a percentage to that union itself in ex- change for introducing their members to you. You should be careful that your for-profit offers must be in line with the current laws of your country.
  41. 41. 41 Win-Win Attitude Toward Others O) Win-Win Attitude Toward Others 1) 1) If there is a specific geographical area for your operation, or if you somehow decide to work with certain neighborhoods, you can start a working relationship with crowded restaurants and shops. To have a low or no budget advertising for your brand/ business, you can offer people a mutual profit in exchange for advertising you or distributing your coupon ads, oryou can also advertise them in return. 2) 2) You can also give them a commission in exchange for introducing a customer or the space they have given you. There are many complexities in such trade and it requires careful thought and planning. You make people dependent on you and your brand by giving them commissions for referring new customers. You just have to make them believe that they will definitely gain profit if they refer a customer to you. As one of the low/no budget methods of intro- duction and advertisement, this method doesn’t cost you much fund or time. However, you should decide about it based on the knowledge you have about the business, the type of your customers and the type of customers in the businesses with which you want to start a mutual collaboration. In fact, if you both have the same specific group of customers, this method is a perfect way of win-win advertisement.
  42. 42. No/Low Budget Advertisement 42 3) 3) Paying commission to anyone who refers you a customer is called referral fee. Paycommis- sion to anyone (whether it be a friend, a relative or a stranger) who refer a customer to you. In this case, they are given a taste of profit and they collaborate with you! Even if someone re- fuses to receive commission from you because of friendship or feeling awkward, you must pay the commission anyway. 4) 4) It’s a big mistake not to pay commission to a coordinator for referring a customer.
  43. 43. 43 Win-Win Attitude Toward Others 5) 5) Before any customer referral by others, consider a certain percentage of sales as commission or re- ferral fee but you should pay the commission after closing the contract. I have written a book titled ‘Smart Referral Sys- tem, ‘ which is somewhat the same as an affiliate system and I have thoroughly discussed it in the book.
  44. 44. No/Low Budget Advertisement 44 P) Working with Media 1) 1) Media have different levels. Some media are smaller and they aren’t famous yet; so, their circle of audience is more limited. The other group of media is mass media, including radio and television networks, and national newspapers which are popular media. The third group stands somewhere between these two categories. 2) 2) Categorize the media and start with the first group. Try to get mutual projects so you don’t have to pay any cost. The media you choose may be in need of your service. For example, you can offer to fix their computer servers and they publish your ads in return. 3) 3) While working with the media, try to provide mutual services so you don’t have to pay any- thing or you can at least cover a part of your costs by providing services.

These billboards are free to use with lots of applications and there are many ads all over them. If there is such a tool available in your country, you should identify the area of your target market and publicize the ad flyers of your business in the advertising boards located in that area. Some people may even put up handwritten ads but the more eligible and professional the flyers, the better the results. This method requires a very low budget, yet it is a very effective method to introduce and advertise your business.
  47. 47. 47 Printing and Distributing Flyers R) Printing and Distributing Flyers Business presentation card is one of the low budget tools on which you can maneuver for introducing and advertis- ing your business. To use this method, you must first have a well-designed vis- iting card. Along with that, you need to print a card named “presentation card” with about 15*10 cm size so you can introduce your business in a limited space and dis- tribute the card when attending events, shops and busy locations or any other possible place. This card is more important than a vis- iting card because you can print more de- tailed information about your business, your social network IDs and the website address on both sides of the card.
  48. 48. No/Low Budget Advertisement 48 Identify the seminars in which audiences are a part of your target market, then give your visiting card and your “presen- tation card” to the audience. In some countries such as the US and Canada, there are places for free distri- bution of newspapers and magazines. If there are such places in your country, put your flyers among the press. People take your ads with them along with the maga- zines and newspapers. You should note that we are talking about people with no budget for adver- tisement. Therefore, you need to do the job on your own when you get the chance.
  49. 49. 49 Printing and Distributing Flyers In many countries all around the world, there are places to put up flyers. In the big cities of the world, these places are located in crowded areas and passages. In some countries, you can put up a flyer anywhere you want. May years ago, when my first book was just published and I didn’t have any money to advertise it, I would go to the main streets at 4-5 am and hand the poster of the book cover on special boards where flyers could be posted. Af- ter doing that, I would go to bookshops at around 10 am and I would offer my book for sale. That way I was able to sell my book to different people. This is be- cause people had already been aware of my book by seeing the book cover on the boards, making them to find it easy to buy my book. Therefore as an individ- ual finding ways to sell your products, business, brand or service you must take advantage of this method to advertise your products, business or service at no/ low budget.
  50. 50. No/Low Budget Advertisement 50 Putting flyers is one of the low budget advertising methods. You can put your visiting card or a flyer of your business in the crowded places around your target market. You should know it’s not just a matter of money that is important to this meth- od. The proper distribution is of great importance. According to the low price you can pay, you should pay attention to the proper distribution of your flyers because the time you spend to go there and negotiate with the person in charge and post the ads is a part of your budget. Therefore, you should avoid visiting the places which bring no good feedback for you.
  51. 51. 51 Gift Cards S) Gift Cards Well-known websites such as Google or Bing search en- gines hold seminars and webinars regarding advertisements on their websites. In such seminars, they give you gift cards with which you can sometimes advertise in Google and Bing with ads that are worth as much as 100 dollars or more. Sometimes the cards are posted to your workplace address. These seminars are free. If you are living in North Ameri- can countries, you can attend such seminars and receive gift cards. You can’t use more than one gift card by one sin- gle account. You should open more accounts to be able to use more cards. Note

  53. 53. 53 Sending (e)mails U) Sending (e)mails In early working times, I prepared a letter and sent it to different corporations in the market in which I wanted to work. My intention was to get contract projects from those corporations and it worked. In the letter, I wrote about the things I knew and the skills I had; then I sent the letter to the corporations which I thought might need my services. This method is one of the low budget ways to advertise your business. Mind you it only requires stamp price. In the modern world, you can do this using email and there will be no charge. However, posting a mail has its own merits and effects. Mails must be clear without extra details; and you should send them to people who have the potential to use your services.
