The following online course is a training designed for mental health clinicians that
focuses on stress management techniques they can use with their clients.
• Stress Management Techniques: An Overview of What Works - This
intermediate-advanced level course will give an overview of several brief stress
reduction methods. First, it will include a discussion of the basic physiology of the
stress response. Then, it will focus on techniques that therapists can teach their
clients in a relatively brief time frame, including several innovative mind/body
techniques to reduce psychophysiological arousal, as well as Cognitive
Behavioral techniques to modify attitudes and reactions to stressors. As an

Biography
Barbara Cox, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist, Health Coach, and Writer whose advice
has been featured in local and national publications, including MSN.com and
Cosmopolitan. She has also been a guest on local TV shows on healthy living. Barbara
specializes in health coaching and writing that is grounded in science yet approachable
to the general public. She has extensive training in positive psychology, Ericksonian
hypnosis, cognitive behavioral techniques, and meditation.
Barbara started her career as a scientist, having earned a B.A. in Biology from the
University of California, San Diego. She worked as an environmental scientist, most
notably organizing environmental projects for the Department of Defense. During her
time in this role, she coordinated permits, wrote environmental articles, coordinated with
military-base media to spread the word on new environmental projects, and ran
community focus groups. From there, she branched out into working for environmental
consulting firms. “I loved managing large-scale projects; however, I wanted to get
involved in more ‘people’ work,” she says, “so I went on to earn a doctorate in health
psychology from Alliant International University, with further training in Ericksonian
hypnosis and peak-performance coaching.”
Barbara has a rare blend of clinical training, health coaching, writing and research
experience that allows her to disseminate complex mental health concepts in an
