2. Camera and Editing
The video begins with tracking shots of fairy lights through a gloomy hall and
follows the hall through.
The camera isn’t stable and seems to be handheld giving a rugged effect, then as
it makes it through the hall it pans and widens the shot to give us a look at the
singer.
The whole scene is done within one fluid shot, this gives the audience a feel of
how lonely and isolated the singer is, and shows the gloominess of the house’s
setting.
3. Mise en scene
They use colours in their video that match the whole feel of the video and the
mood.
The lyrics too match the setting as he sings about isolation and the whole scene
is quite abandoned and he is alone himself in the opening scenes.
However as the song goes on more people start to enter the frame and the
colours go from a dark tone to a light one and the tone of the crowd is cheerful
and uplifting
Light is used as a way of the singers getting their emotions across, the fairy lights
at the start begin to go on and off showing that he is lonely. Around the end a
sun can be seen bursting through the house, this is diplaying the freedom
reflected in the song.
