This SlideShare is designed to give a few pointer on how to train a puppy. It's just a few tips that we have found to work for most Saint Bernard puppies, along with other breed, too.

WHEN TO HOUSE TRAIN
I recommend that you begin
training your puppy when he or
she is between 12 weeks and 14
weeks old. Earlier is fine , but
they should have control of
their bladder and bowel
movements so they can learn to
hold it.
Don’t start to soon or you and the
puppy will get very frustrated.

Generally speaking, a puppy can
control his bladder one hour for
every month of age. So if your
puppy is two months old, he can
hold it for about two hours.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE
TO HOUSE TRAIN A PUPPY?
4. Indoor accidents -
If your puppy has an accident, don't get
angry. Clean the floor to remove the odor or
your puppy will continue to go to the toilet in
the same place.
Be careful with hardwood floors and carpeting. Urine can penetrate carpet padding.
PRO TIP:
5. Use Commands
Puppies should go outside after
they wake up, or have had
something to drink or eat.
Once out of the house, use a
command such as 'Go Now,' or ‘Go
Potty’ so they know it's time to
relieve themselves.
Praise them when they go, but ignore
them when they fail.

6. KEEP PUPPY IN A
DEFINED SPACE
Paper training - You can paper-train
small breeds and young puppies on
newspapers or ‘wee pads’. Praise them with
lots of affection when the newspaper is used
and ignore them when it's not.
Crate Training - An alternative is crate
training, where puppies wait in a special
space before they're taken outside. Allow
them to relieve themselves at minimum,
every two hours and right after eating,
sleeping or playing.
Take a piece of soiled paper outside in a special area
of the yard so the puppy recognizes and gets
familiar with its own scent and will want to use that
one area.

7. Stick to a routine-
Your puppy or dog loves routines. It
helps them feel safe and they will
understand what is supposed to happen
and what is expected of them.

Retraining an adult dog
With adult dogs, keep them
confined to a designated space.
Take your dog outside on a regular
schedule, and when he or she
'goes', offer lots of praise.

training.
