In this screenshot, as a target audience we can see that it's slightly blurred and misty
however you can see faint objects in the fore and background. This is causing to look
more deeply into what it is we are looking and listening to. All we can hear at this
point in the story is the wind blowing slightly but other than that its silence up until
there is narrative. The extreme long shot provides us with a lot to see in this frame
which then leads us to keep looking. The mist in this also causes tension and suspense
and is a typical thriller convention.
In this scene you can now see a wider angle (using a low angle shot) of the scene and
it provides us with the location of where the scene begins. As the credits are being
revealed the scene is also revealed as an empty, deserted place. There is no sound or
narrative, the silence caused by this suggest that there is going to be something
important take place and therefore catches the audiences attentions before it happens.
2. In this scene you can see the first characters which leads us to think that she is the
main character beneath the trees. It looks like she is looking at the camera and this
leads us to think that she is being looked at through the POV of someone else in the
woods and may foreshadow something that happens later on in the film. The medium
shot isn't a very interesting shot which is then pulling our attention towards what is
going on in the scene rather than how it is framed., and the camera angle may
contradict what is going to happen. It is also completely silence still which is still
causing tension and meaning that when there is sound, it is more intense and
powerful.
In this screenshot, we as the target audience are seeing firstly, a young girl, which
makes us wonder why she is there, and secondly a close up of her which is showing
emotion throughout this screenshot of her in the woods. She is looking straight
towards the camera which is showing us the determination and commitment behind
her character. This behind the first scene where we actually hear her speak makes it
feel more powerful towards the audience as her voice is high pitch and as she is very
young, we are more intrigued to listen to her.
3. In this screenshot, we can see when she shoots the deer in the wood and then runs
after him through the wood until he falls down on the empty, open space on the snow.
This contradicts what we initially thought of this character because instead of us
thinking she was innocent and lost we are now thinking that she is the opposite. This
being a medium-long shot also helps us picture this as we can see them deserted
which builds up a scene for the audience.
This screenshot is then carrying on the plot and helping us understand the storyline
but again, there is no sound which makes us believe that something either bad, or
important is going to happen next. There being no sound inflicts tension and suspense
within the storyline.
