Based on the video clip that you had watched
earlier.
What do you call the process of sending and
receiving messages without using words and also
includes gestures, facial expressions, and body
positions?
Very good! Can you give me an example of
nonverbal communication?

use to solve a problem?
Great! Based on your answers What will be our
lesson this morning?

anything.

Nonverbal communication Strategies
B. Discussion
I will show pictures related to the nonverbal
communication strategy and analyze what is
happening in the picture or what the picture all
about?
1. Facial Expressions
What are facial Expressions?
Yes! That’s right, The look on a person’s face
is often the first thing we see, even before we
hear what they have to say.
2. Gestures
What are gestures?
Yes! Common gestures include waving,
pointing, and using fingers to indicate numeric
amounts.
3. Paralinguistics
What are paralinguistic?
Facial expressions are responsible for a
huge proportion of nonverbal
communication. Consider how much
information can be conveyed with a
smile or a frown.
Deliberate movements and signals are
an important way to communicate
meaning without words.
It refers to vocal communication that is
separate from actual language.
Exactly! This includes factors such as tone of
voice, loudness, intonation and pitch. Consider
the powerful effect that tone of voice can have
on the meaning of a sentence.
Example:
When we said in a strong voice, listeners might
interpret approval and enthusiasm. The same
words said in a hesitant tone of voice might
convey disapproval and lack of interest.
4. Body Language
What is body language?
Very good! Posture and movement can also
convey a great deal of information. Research
on body language has grown significantly.
Example:
Standing Up Straight – feel confident
Putting Your Head In Your Hands – upset
Hands Open and Palms Up – no hidden
5. Proxemics
What are proxemics?
That’s right! People often refer to their need
for “Personal space, “which is also an
important type of nonverbal communication.
Factors that including social norms, cultural
expectations, situational factors, personality
characteristics and level of familiarity.
6. Eye contact
Is a type of nonverbal
communication that relies on body
movements (such as gestures, posture,
and facial expressions) to
convey messages.
Deals with the amount of space that
people feel it necessary to set between
themselves and others.
Base on the picture, what is eye contact in
nonverbal communication strategies?
Right! The eyes play an important role in
nonverbal communication and such things
as looking, staring and blinking are
important nonverbal behaviors.
Examples: looking at another person can
indicate a range of emotions including
hostility, interest, and attraction.
7. Haptics
What are haptics?
Yes! It is another important nonverbal
behavior. Touch can be used to
communicate affection, familiarity,
sympathy and other emotions.
Example: handshake, pat, kiss, slap, hug,
massage, hit, kick, embrace, tickle
8. Appearance
How about Appearance ?
Our choice of color, clothing, hairstyle, and
other factors affecting appearance are also
considered a means of nonverbal
communication.
9. Artifacts
Can you define artifacts in nonverbal
communication?
Keeping eye contact with the person
you are talking to shows that you are
actively listening and paying attention.
Communicating through touch.
Appearance conveys nonverbal
impressions that effect the receiver
attitude towards verbal message.
convey messages without the subject
speaking a word
Objects and images are also tools that can be
used to communicate nonverbally.
Example: Jewelry, costumes and accessories.
C. Application
This time, we’re having an activity by group.
You will pick an envelope to identify or know
the task assigned to you. I will give 5 minutes to
prepare in your group.
Group 1 Let’s face it!
Directions: Choose 1 representative in a group to
show the different facial expressions and the rest
of the group will guess.

Group 5 Careless whisper!
Directions: make a dialogue that shows
paralinguistic communication.
You did a great job to our activity. Please give a
lets go clap for everybody.
D. Generalization
I think you already understand what our topic
is all about.
Now, What makes nonverbal communication
strategies significant in our daily life?
Does everybody use nonverbal communication
strategies?
How does it help in your daily routine as
means of instruction?
Are nonverbal communication strategies
effective?
(students do as instructed)
This is very important because in our
daily lives, especially when we meet
someone at the first time, we will form
a first impression toward that person
based on the person's skin color, eye
